Default FiiO E5: iPod Shuffle "homage" amp now official

http://mp4nation.net/blog/?p=313

Oh brother... congrats on the "unique" design. Silly Chinese people, don't they know faking well-known designs like that is considered bad taste?
I wonder how it compares to the FiiO E3.

Wonder what kind of life they get out the totally original shuttle battery? Would look kind of funny with the logo from a patent lawyer on front

Ehhh, would have preferd some sort of dial or jog dial instead of a volume clicker. Meh.

Still if it sounds exactly the same as an E3, I think I'd rather have that E5 as the smaller nature and clip on feature would work well for me.

FiiO brochure, containing the E5: http://www.fiio.com*****en/pic/_200810798015833.pdf

Bass boost is selectable, background hiss should be improved, better interference shielding, better THD and SNR, etc.

The electric +/- volume buttons might be nice, since cheap analog potentiometers usually crackle and have pan problems (like on the Corda Headsix or PA2V2 - even if they use ALPS brand potis).

dfkt, does this mean the d3 portable is going to take a back seat :/ ... I was looking forward to your assessment on it.

Edit: Wow, just read they're sold out and there is a 2 week delay ... blame the headfiers

I'm actually interested in the P3, not the D3... love that opamp Lego toy approach, and don't necessarily need an USB DAC.

About the new FiiO I don't know... I have no real need for it.

I just ordered the E3 last night. If the E5 works decent it may be a better option for a portable set up. The E3 doesn't run with the big boys but for $10 it sounds to be worthwhile.

In the brochure, I see that the Fiio E5 is going to come in 5 colors: silver, black, blue, red, and green.

Thats actually not a bad design for a headphone amp... I agree, I think its lame, but I am still going to buy it when its available.

If I did get a Clip too, then I might consider getting the Fiio and Clip both in silver to match the 780's! it would be a cliptastical combination!

Moreover, if you bought one of those plug/plug couplers you could connect them and clip them side-by-side. And with the mini-USB port on the side of the E5, you may even be able to lock them together by attaching a mini-USB shell to the Clip, a'la CptnOdegards D2 impedance adapter.

8gb Sansa Clip + Fiio E5 + HFI-780's = bliss.

Edit: The only 3.5mm M/M coupler I could find was here:http://www.jaykang.com/35mmstpltopl.html

Edit II: would that coupler put undue strain on the player jacks, or are they pretty sturdy?

Here's one that's much cheaper when you factor in the shipping costs at Jay Kang.

What's weird to me is how much it looks like this:

My lame, but awesome sounding, Shuffle clone.

All the best.

Both the fake Shuffle's and the FiiO's housings could very likely come from the same Chinese factory...

fake ipods are better than real ipods, even though they don't have a touch wheel.

Updated pics of the FiiO E5:

Seems they want to release black/white and a black/red versions only.
