I'm currently having issues updating the firmware on my Sansa Express from version 1.01.05A to version 1.01.12A. As far as I know, the only way to do this is through Sansa Updater, and the updater will simply state that the upgrade failed and not even give an error code. This is important for me, as the newer firmware is much better at handling memory expansion; I would be able to utilize my 8GB MicroSDHC card. Also, my computer is running Windows Vista Home Premium, if that helps.
So, how can I actually get around to updating this thing?

Are you using the updater with the the Express in MTP mode? Do you have a XP computer that you could use?

Yep, took care of it that way...thanks a bunch!
Well, I still have a problem with getting my microSDHC card to work properly (it is a Class 4 SanDisk 8GB card). The player simply doesn't detect it, although it has in the past; I had heard that 8GB cards worked reasonably well with the new firmware, which was why I was so concerned about updating. I'll try re-formatting the card, and if that doesn't work, what else can I try?

Well, apparently the thing just decided to work for me...I'm currently putting ALL my music on this thing! Seriously, I like the idea of having the small, simple and straightforward USB stick player with the ability to add tons of memory for strictly music-lovers. Unfortunately, the Sansa Express is one-of-a-kind on this front, and it isn't without a few annoying glitches.

Yea, the only players that have heard has no firmware updates because there are no bugs or hard to see bugs. I like Sansa Clip a bit more then the Express that I have, but the Clip does not have a microSD slot.
