This is my first post on these forums, i found the site while searching away for some answers to basic questions i've had on the zune, and figured i'd try a more direct approach.
Basically here's my problem. About a week ago my iPod died on me. and due to all the hassle that it gave me before it finally bit the dust, I have sworn off Apple. So last week I bought an 8GB Creative Zen. Just as a temp solution till I found the right large format MP3 player for myself. However since i've been using the Zen for a while now, i must say i am quite upset about it's overall lower volume in comparison to my old iPod. Being the old-school rocker that I am, I long for loud and very loud music. And frankly, the Zen just falls short of what my iPod was able to deliver. Now I am interested in going the way of a 120GB Zune, however, seeing how I have never tried a Zune before, I cannot atest to it's sound capiblities. not just talking about clearity, I am interesting in loudness. So if anyone would be so kind, I'm just wondering, on a case by case basis, have you guys found that the Zune is louder than the Creative line of produces, or at least somewhat matching of that an iPod could output? Any help would be lovely. |

I haven't tried Creative's players so I can't compare however I would say the zune gets fairly loud. You may also want to look into having a cheap Headphone amp like the FiiO.

I'd say the Zune's volume is comparible to an iPod from what I remember.
I have a Zen Vision M and a Zune 80. With a pair of Creative EP-630's the Zune is quite a bit louder, in fact it gets so loud with these phones that anything over 17 is way too loud (it goes to 20). With the ZVM I could go all the way and it wasn't too much (although I wouldn't listen that loud for more than a song or two). |

Actually, the Zune DOES have a lower volume output than the ipod. I'm NOT referring to the mw per channel - the perceived volume is what I mean. It's loud, but it's definitely not as loud.

Should we be concerned about the health risk envloved with really loud music?
Anyway you may want to invest in some good in-ear earphones. With those all the sound will travel into your ear, and not escape like with the standard )open earphones.) The result is a fuller and louder sound. Its interesting, I have a Cretive Zen Vision M and never had problems with loud volume, it must be just the newer players. |

In-ear phones protect your hearing, if you're responsible. Outside noise doesn't get to your ears, they literally block it off. Therefore, you can put your music a little less loud and enjoy better hearing in 2050.
Also, in-earphones have much higher sensitivity. My Ultimate Ears are played at about 4/20, and it's still too loud for me to listen to, so I now use an attenuator. I can also hear the hard drive spinning, seeking, and even some other pwoer-drawing components working inside of the Zune. |

Zens are much louder with international firmware, as opposed to European. Maybe that's what's wrong. My Zen sure is loud enough with international...
