Default 'Charging Staus' does not show (help)

I'm a little concerned that my iaudio 7 isn't charging. I'm using windows vista 64-bit, and after following instruction in the quick guide, I don't get the charging status screen. It just stays on the USB connected screen.

I did a little research, and it seems this is an issue with vista, some people suggested using a motorola phone charger. I've got a v3 charger here from my phone, 5.0v 550mA, so I thought I'd try it to put my mind at ease, and same thing, it just stays on the USB connected screen.

I'm going to take it to work tomorrow to test it on a windows xp machine, I'll post an update after I do.

While it's connected, either turn player off or do safe disconnect and don't remove player. This will change the screen to the battery charging screen, but changing the screen to that is not needed to charge the player.

The screen does not change to the battery charging screen after following these instuctions, the player won't even turn off when connected via usb, nor does it change to the battery charging screen when using a motorola wall charger as stated in my original post.

unfortunately I didn't get to test it at work on a windows xp machine as they had no usb cables! I'll have to take one along tomorrow.

---Update---

I've managed to get the charging screen by connecting it to my xbox 360 while the xbox 360 is turned off, but still connected to the power supply / mains. If I switch my xbox off at the mains, the Iaudio switches off also, so I know it must be drawing power

ssrendan,
Update to original post, safe disco works for me and leaving connected turns screen to charging screen with service pack 2. Turning off player doesn't, but wall charger does display it. Not really a big deal, as long as you know it's charging.

I have the same problem with my new iAudio 7 16gb received today. Vista, disconnect device from system tray, iAudio still reports it's connected.

Did you go to settings/general/USB charging and make sure it's set to normal not slow or off? I run Vista and have never had a problem. But the wall charger doing the same thing makes me wonder...

I have a Motorola mini USB as well but when I plug it in it again says: USB Connection.
I have the same when I plug it into 4 different laptops and PC running either Vista or XP.

I did notice however that when my unit arrived today the battery indicator showed all 4 bars hence it seems to be fully charged. Could this be why I dont have a battery indicator showing?

Red face

Received my new i7 today & upgraded to latest firmware v1.18. When I connect to my laptop (WinXP Pro SP3) it only shows "USB Connected" with an image of USB jack going in circles. After I disconnect it properly within XP (not pulling out the cable), I have to wait about 5secs before the battery status showed up. So, no issues there.
