Other firmware version will work if you are working on fixing your Sansa. Here is another link if you need only the firmware: http://files.zefie.com/PMP/sansa/e20...200A1_00_12.7z

Gah, I'm too frustrated.

The thingy you suggested didn't work (It never reformated/updated the firmware)

I guess I have to go and pay 50$ for the fix.
Which will take 2 months.

It is because you have the beta firmware. You need to this file, and boot it into recovery mode.

thanks. I did see a reference to "daniel's site" but didn't find it. Now, that site just provides the m14 file...i'm trying to perform a recovery....this post suggests using the exe file:

Sansa e200 firmware files do not have a .exe file, they include a mi4 file and a .rom and they are both there. That .exe they refer to may have been a tool to install the firmware when an e200 is bricked and sandisk may have removed it when they no longer support it. Only other way I know of is to use the e200tool, you should be able to find it in the FAQ's under the e200 forums. Also AFAIK it only runs in linux but there is a good tutorial there that allows you to boot from a disk and run the tool.

No idea what that exe does, but from the directions it sounds like the goal is just to format the player using recovery mode which you can easily do without that exe.

http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SansaE200Unbrick

See the 'Formatting the device' step.

shtonut you didn't post any symptoms of your e200 or which version so we could hopefully recommend a course of action.

thanks for your help guys. i managed to fix it by putting the empty file "sansa.fmt" and the mi4/rom files on the recovery mode partition.

the problem was that "refresh database" would get part way through, then i'd get a blue screen and it'd be stuck there. or, in rockbox, I could peruse the menu until i selected a song or tried to do anything.....then it'd hang.
