Default Rockbox?

Just picked up a zen and I'm pretty happy with it. Scored an 8 gb refurb for $85 off the creative site last week, and the interface is awesome, especially compared w/ my old e200. Only issues are I have had to reset a couple of time so far because of freezing, and I don't think 8gb is enough to keep up with my growing music collection (and I already know about the gimped SD card slot). Which got me interested in rockbox agn - Is there a rockbox build/custom firmware being produced for the zen?

It took about 2 years for the firmware hack that let you customize themes for the Zen Vision M so I would doubt they have cracked the Zen yet. I've never seen or heard about it happening so far. Sorry

Talking there are!!!!

Check HERE Gaara42 from the forums at www.epiZENter.net has made a recopilation for making themes and tweaks to the UI whit Creative Wizard, Theme Editor Pack, ZenUtils and pngout

I really like that "Creative Wizard"

for the ZEN you can:

-Change splash screen
-Add new languages
-Mod Zen themes (to make your own from the default ones)
-Change fonts with .ttf files

Happy modding to all!!!!!

Default Custom Firmware?

I was just wondering if there was custom firmware out for the ZEN yet? Because I'd like mine to be able to play games I guess it'd take a while to edit coding, adding new menus etc. Thanks anyway

games?

the zen doesnt have enough power for that.
i mean, even the main-menu-animations arent too fluid (though i dont know if that animation has so few frames on purpose or if its because of lack of performance of the zen), how is it going to play games?

what kind of games do you want to play on it anyway? flash-games?

It is highly unlikely that changing the theme would wreck the player, and any problems should be fixable by upgrading the firmware.

considering that changing the theme is part of the firmware, it would be highly illogical if it would harm the zen, right? ^^

Right, i had a vista like theme on mine but i just change my mind and return to the stock firmware for now, until the final version. There is no harm to the player.

give it a try, there is even a new version of one of the tools thats great for making your custom firmwares.

Just some food for thought.... Yes, changing the theme, particularly the wallpapper which seems to be saved somewhere within the firmware on the separate drive partition set aside for the firmware instead of on the data partition, has been known to cause a corruption/problem (see here and here). Since there is this interaction between the wallpaper and the firmware (and the firmware partition), there exists the possibility of a corruption of some sort. With that said, if there ever does become a corruption, yes, it should be able to be corrected by a reload of the firmware.
