dang everybody already hit him the the witty responses, I don't want to be a copy cat so i'll say........The 8 gig probably will last longer. I've had nothing but problems with both of the 4 gig p2's i've had. Earphone jack loosening, weird sounds during playback of songs (gradually loud revving sound during new songs added, never in the same spot of the song, all random). I guess you get what you pay for though. The Ipod is more expensive but my ipod's have lasted longer than my p2's.

how many songs can be put on a 4gb vs 8gb ? what is the best bitrate to use ?

you can fit 2000 songs on an 8gb P2 with the bitrate at 128k. 128k is decent enough, but some people prefer 192k or higher.

I personally have 1960 songs off 152 CDs and have 800MB left over.
