Default m250 firmware

Well the system files on my Sansa m250 were corrupted and since I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 (Linux), it looks like I'm boned, as Sandisk offers no Linux support. I've had no success running the updater in the WINE environment. A thread in the Ubuntu forums led me here in search of an RAR containing a .mi4 file that I can drag onto my Sansa and somehow it will regenerate the firmware when I disconnect it? Really hoping someone can help me out so that I don't have to bad touch my poor machine with a windows partition. Thanks.

You might have the wrong firmware. A .MI4 is mainly for the PP based players. The m200 is Telechips or AMS based depends on the version. What firmware verison is on the m200 right now?

I may have jumped to conclusions here. Firmware may be fine. My original issue is that the player displays "no files" when I turn it on. I assumed that it must be corrupted .SYS files, since the player mounts/unmounts without problems, and that updating firmware would correct this. I'm starting to think that I'm way off.

You have the latest version for that player.

What kind of files are you trying to use on your m200v4?

It should only play MP3's or WMA's just fine.

Are you using MSC mode and putting them into the MUSIC folder?

I am in MSC mode. I wasn't putting my files in a MUSIC folder because there never was one, even when it was working. I just created one and tested it. No go. It still tells me that there are no files on the device.

I do not remember if there is a Format in the Menu. Could you try that if there is one?

I am not not sure what is going on here.

Checked "settings" menu on device. No Format. You think I should try to format it with Gparted? FAT 32? How do I restore the .SYS files?

It should be FAT32 formatted. The firmware should rebuild any files it needs.

Hmm. I formatted it, disconnected, and started it up again. Didn't rebuild anything. Rhythmbox still recognizes it as a "digital audio player" but when I put files on it, the player still doesn't see them. Any particular order I should be doing this in? There has to be something I'm missing here. The fact that I'm using a partition editor to format it with maybe?

Sounds like it is not building the database for some reason.

Could you try reinstalling the firmware? Here is a 7zip file with the firmware in it: http://files.zefie.com/PMP/sansa/m20...plusA4_1_08.7z. You just drag and drop the firmware to the root of the Sansa.

By god I think we've done it. It's been telling me "Please Wait Rebuilding the Library" for about a half an hour though. How long should I expect that to last?

It should only do that for only a few minutes I would think, but I think we are getting close to finding out what is going on tho. I wonder if you format it and then put the firmware file on it right afterwards if that does anything different.

I will say this that your M200v4 is weird.

Well it hung on that screen all night. I had to reinstall the battery to restart it. Formatted (again) and dropped that .bin on there, per your suggestion. Now it's pretty much completely unresponsive. Just hangs at "Finalizing Update". Looks like I have a glorified flash drive on my hands.

Sounds like it. I am just running out of ideas.

Do you know how to program mainly C? If you do, you might want to look into helping out at Rockbox. If not, keep an eye on their forum in the New Ports.
