Default sansa e280 only allows read-only access

Hi, all.

I recently installed Ubuntu 8.04 on my desktop. When I connect my Sansa e280 via USB, it automounts and opens Rhythmbox. It also brings up a drive icon on the desktop. Everything seems hunky dory, but when I try to copy files to the player, it tells me that it's 'Read-only'.

I've read through many posts on the Sansa e200 players on www.ubuntuforums.org, to no avail. I thought I would try here to see if anyone can help me out, or at least point me in the right direction.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Are you using MTP or MSC mode? MTP and Linux sometimes does not work right. MSC mode should work.

Yeah, I'm using MSC mode. MTP mode doesn't work at all (in fact, it causes Rhythmbox to crash).

Can you drag and drop files on to the Sansa without Rhythmbox?

Hi! Thanks for your replies.

I can't drag and drop files at all. For instance, if I try to drag a folder off of the desktop and into the MUSIC folder, it says "Error: The filesystem is read-only"

Weird, I have not ran into this issue.

Do you have permission to write to the Sansa?

Edit: I found this thread and it sounds like your issue: http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum...ad.php?t=14061
