David, to make sure the amp makes a difference I suggest to do an abx test.

thanks for the review, I just order a few of them for myself and a few friends ^^. I am sure that the HD-485 will benefit from a sony a81x series and the his should not be bad given the 64 ohms ^^.

You don't need to do an ABX test to notice the bass boost...

I never had an amp before would this be a good entry level to the genre?

For the ZVM, yes, probably - depending on your headphones.

For the i7, rather not.

Black FiiO's now available on eBay, and not much more expensive than DealExtreme: http://cgi.ebay.com/MP4-MP5-iPod-iPh...QQcmdZViewItem

White are out of stock... Hopefully they haven't changed the formula on the board or the OpAmp... We'll see when mine becomes in stock probably next month.

wow, not bad at all for $8.50, I was expecting a much sloppier job. I was not expecting surface mount resistors and rather low tolerance through the whole ones.

Its exactly the same as the white one and yes the interconnect came with the device. Its the same, alittle too long but not long enough style interconnect.

Only reason I can think of it being $0.05 cheaper, is because the black doesn't come out aswell as the white. You can sorta see the black plastic with parts that are slightly less black then the rest of it . Cant tell at a normal viewing distance, but under sunlight its pretty clear up close.

dfkt was right though, these don't really boost the volume much, but the definitely flesh out the low end on headphones that don't have the most off-the-shelf bass. I'm satisfied with my 8.50 purchase.

ok, just got mine today, paired it with the qjays, and i have to say WOW!
the one thing that the jays have been missing was bass, for which i heavily pushed with the eq on my zvm. with the fiio i don't need any eq at ALL, listening to portishead, which is one of my more bass heavy bands and it's filling the bass all the way to the lows!
it really gives the qjays the "full body" it needed. i can't really hear any hiss either.
and while the zvm isn't that weak, i always felt like i wanted a couple more nudges for the volume, and the fiio gives pretty much that and even a bit more. so definitely brings my experience to a much more satisfying level.

i think that if anyone gets the qjays, he should automatically add the fiio to his cart. it really makes them near perfect.

now the qjays are still very bright and accurate, which makes the bass a bit too punchy for the dark stuff, but still makes it a much much much more pleasant experience!

p.s: the cable that came with it sux, keeps hissing when i move it around, need to buy an extra one >_<
