Default FiiO E3 $8.50 headphone amp

AT first I lol'ed, but according to random weirdos at headfi, there might actually be some point in spending $8,50 on this FiiO headphone amp.

Haha. I was gonna write about this just now.... You beat me to it, captain!

Anyway, is it actually even worth buying? I've been looking for any cheap portable amps lately...

Also, it seems that it's actually quite good, considering how cheap it is. There's some comments saying that on head-fi.

I'll be ordering this around next month.

Congrats, will be interesting to hear your feed back as there’s been a thread on headfi with some positive feedback here.

Why not look at the CMoy, if you don't want to build it, you can find it on ebay for around $30.00 to $34.00

About the volume control:
Remember that any cheap analog volume control will be a major weak link in the equation, and take up space. While it does mean line out wont be a possibility, many people uise the normal headphone jack for audio out.

Orderd one myself, might work nice enough with my im716's... They demand so much power, my HD5, or Clip cant even properly power them. Should still work with my HD5's line out, because the headphones themselves have a volume control,

For those who try it: will it drive a line in at a reasonable volume?

Here's some RMAA tests, Fiio/Headsix/PA2V2 on a Cowon D2:

RightMark Audio Analyzer test: D2 - Fiio, Headsix, PA2V2, Unamped (Vol. 34)
RightMark Audio Analyzer test: D2 - Fiio, Headsix, PA2V2, Unamped (Vol. 50)

Yes, it hisses quite a bit with sensitive phones. There's very little hiss with phones like the q-Jays or HFI-780, but with the SE530 the FiiO hisses a lot.

I just went to the post office and got mine, works very well with my NW-HD5 + im716 setup. Especialy since the HD5 has a proper line out. Not one of those half way deals like my H300, or a piss poor one like the X5 o_O

I got almost no hiss, but only while using the line out function on the HD5. Volume is boosted quite nicly, problem with the rig, before the FiiO, was that there wasn't enough power to push the volumes up to what I like to call "fun" levels :P

No volume jog dial or anything, is abit of a disapointment, butnot really for me. I never de-poded by im716's so I still have that annoying volume adjuster.

Bass is boosted quite abit with the Fiio. Still not sure on the quality of the bass, but now I dont need to use the bass mode on the im716's unless I want to.

All in all I gotta say it sure is worth the $8.50.
