What type of cable do you prefer on your headphones?
J-Style: One earbud cable is shorther than the other Y-Style: Both Cable Lengths are the same. Please vote and discuss your reasoning below. |

with the CX300 i prefer the J style since otherwise it falls down somewhere when i take them out. With the CX400 im glad they are Y style as it has a clip and when thats there i do prefer Y

J-style is absolutely horrible, whoever came up with that idea should be whipped with a wet towel. The ONLY (tiny) advantage of J-style is that you can hang the cable round your neck when you're not using them - but with Y-style cables and the phones up around your ears you don't need that anyways.
Here's from an older thread: Quote:

The last few pair of headphone that I tried with J-style, the shorter cable side likes to fall out of my ear too many times.

J-Style always seemed awkward to me, I definitely prefer Y-style

Y ftw, over the ears and down the center of my back, most comfortable, least amount of cable microphonics and no tangles with tings
… the J style for me has never worked because one side is too long and/or the other side is too short, might be different if they were made to the correct length that I need, but why go through the trouble when Y works so well …

I like it Y-style over the ears and down my back the most, except if I am in class since it is difficult to sit down without sitting on the cable. Cans around mah neck are certainly the best option for comfort/ease of use on the go... and I prefer single-cable headphones.

When I first read about J-style cables, I thought they'd be okay. When I tried a set, they were terrible. I much prefer Y.

I prefer Y-style as well. But I don't really care about the J-style (My CX300 are J).

I also prefer the Y (like current Denon AH-C551) but one advantage the J's (old & tatty Audio Technica ATH-CK5) have is that you can always tell which is the left and which is the right (even in the dark!).
(On a side note: the old ATH-CK5's with the funny lug that clips in were some of the most comfortable IEMs I have ever owned. Hated the J cable tho'.) |

As long as the sound quality is good, I'll wear what ever style it is. If the SQ isn't up to my standard, than I won't wear it so style desn't really matter.

personally i like J style headphones. the J style ones i had were really long so the part about the strain on the left headphone was never a problem for me. i also liked it because it never got in the way when i like lean over or bend down. for the Y headphones, i would always have to put it under my shirt or something so it would never get in the way. i guess its just in my scenario J are better because they never get in the way.

I prefer Y style for earphones, but for headphones I greatly prefer the cord on just one side.

I dont understand how J style cables wouldn't get in the way where Y cables would... unless you ran then under your arm and up your back?

i prefer the "y-style" because two of my headphones before lost the connection on the right headphone.
the cable was always a bit sticky at my neck, so i guess it pulled too much at the right phone... |
