Help How to organize my music folder

How do you guys have your my music folders organized, because I have mine with like artist folders and then a bunch of just random songs I got from people. I'm pretty sure this is wrong and I need an overhaul. Can anyone post screenshots of their folder and explain please?

Thanks in advance

I usually keep mine organized by artist and album both on the computer, and my P2. Each artist gets their own folder, then below that are the folders for the individual albums.

Do you have the original CDs that you can rip?

a lot of people (including myself) just fix all the tags in MP3tag, then use the auto-organize feature in media monkey to sort them out into folders

I still use WMP11 too (it looks cool...), so I have my stuff in
My Music\AlbumArtist\Album\Track# SongTitle.mp3

Even with a bunch of random stuff it's still nice to have them sorted into Artist/Album hierarchy. If you add the rest of the album later, you can just dump it into the already made folder, etc. Also, it's a lot easier to find the specific song you're looking for when all of your stuff is sorted this way. I used to use a "compilation" or "various artist" folder for the stuff I had that was orphaned from an album, but I could never find it when I wanted to listen to it. Luckily with a little work in mp3tag and mediamonkey's autosort feature, you can sort it all pretty easily.

Well on my last mp3 player I occasionally got a "there is already a file named "artist" on _____. Skip/skip all/overwrite/etc" message. So I realized that things are pretty bad. I want to take a snapshot but I must have deleted paint for space saving purposes. I'll try getting it back.

I sort mine by genre mostly, but usually just make playlists and listen to that particular list.

This thread is very confusing to me. I also like to have my music organized into separate folders, BUT if I do that, then how do I create playlists? It seems like the only way to make a playlist is through SMS on the PC and the only way to get it on to the P2 is to transfer it, but then it just copies all the music files in the playlist to the main music directory, which makes the separate folders useless (?!?).

Perhaps there is a better way to create playlists that I am not aware of.
Does anyone have any advice for me?

Thanks!

I actually use iTunes to consolidate my library.
I know it's kind of hypocrite of me, seeing that I'm a regular over here. But it does the work and then I just import the whole library by dragging it onto SMS and WMP11. ;-)

What software do you use to transfer from the PC to the P2? And does it separate the files into folders automatically?

I see you can create playlists on the P2 itself from within any folder, but thar is a bit of a pain in the ***. So is creating manual playlists. I don't know why SMS wasn't designed to allow you to create playlists from files already on the P2.

WMP11 organizes songs on the P2 in Artist/Album/ folders.
