Hi, all. This is my first post here.
I was at Target today and decided to pick up an inexpensive MP3 player for use on the train and at the gym. The Philips GoGear SA3025 looked good and was priced right, so I went with that. Does this MP3 player fit the bill for a reliable, easy-to-use basic player with good audio quality? I'm not interested in video functionality. I haven't taken it out the package yet and can easily exchange it if you think I'd be better served by something else. |

I know nothing about Philips MP3 players, but they used to make decent CD players (still got mine). I'm guessing a Sansa Clip would be better.
Regardless, check out some better earphones. Even if only the JVC Marshmallows. Steve |

There are better players out there, I'd say the sound quality is avarage, certainly better then an old Sandisk E200, atleast the philips has some ammount of bass in it. Not better then a 2nd gen Sansa e200v2 though.
The main features I like about it are tactile controls, and dedicated volume controls. Bottom line is I dunno how much you paid for it. If the price was right for you then I dont see any problem with it. However if your going to obsess over if it really is the best to have then I would return it ;D Over here it costs quite abit more then a Creative Zen, which I would recomend over the philips. Being just alittle cheaper then a Sony A810 doesn't help much either Its the bigger of the 3 mentioned aswell.

Thanks for the replies. I paid $50 for it. It was the best priced of the models that didn't look chintzy. I since did a bit of research, and the Sony NWZS616F at $90 with its 4GB, 33-hr battery, and nicer screen looks like the better option. I'll exchange it tomorrow. Sound quality is most important to me, and my gut is telling me I'll be happier with the Sony. I'll post my impressions after I've gotten comfortable with the Sony.

Oh yes, go for the Sony as the Philips players are not really known for their SQ. They sound ok, just not GREAT. Sony is just AMAZING - you'll see (HEAR -
)for yourself. 1 thing, make sure you get the extended warranty as I seem to be 1 of the rare users who had a lemon. Great player - but always get the extra service to prevent headaches.

I exchanged the GoGear today, but went with the Sansa Clip instead of the Sony. I'm sure the Sony is a great MP3 player, but the Clip's lower price ($55) and solid reputation made it seem like a better buy. The salesman was a young guy who was into MP3 players, and I could tell he approved of my choice (as opposed to his obvious disapproval of the GoGear). I listened to a few of the Clip's sample songs and am impressed by its SQ.
Thanks again for your help. |
