Help Battery Problem

Hi Guys!

A week or so ago, I switched on my Sleek Photo and found the battery was dead. Plugged it in to recharge and found that 3 or so hours later the battery still wasn't charged.....

Assuming that my battery had died, I searched the interweb and found this amazing website (Thanks for the guide to ripping my Zen apart!) and somewhere to get a replacement battery from.

This evening I sat down, fitted the new battery and placed on charge - but I still have the same problem.....

I can see the animation in the top right hand corner saying that the battery is charging, but when you disconnect it, it only shows a very small red amount of battery remaining....

Anybody seen this before? Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

Dave

How long are you letting it charge for, let it go for 4-8 hours and then check it.

Which battery did you get?

The battery for the Sleek has been around a while so it is possible you have gotten a partially over-discharged battery. Connect the Sleek to the PC and let it sit charging overnight.

Hi Guys!

Thanks for your comments, but I've managed to get the damned thing charged.... I normally recharge via the power socket, but for the past couple of weeks I've been using the USB.... I got home from work and connected it to the power socket in a last ditch attempt and it worked!

It would appear therefore, that there wasn't a fault with the original battery.

Should I be able to charge my Zen from the USB or do I have a fault with the recharging circuit?

Cheers!

Dave

Yeah, an AC wall charger can usually supply more charging current than a USB port that can "awaken" a slightly over-discharged battery.

Yes, The Zen Sleek should charge from a good working USB port. The issue with USB charging can be that the USB bus will only supply up to a 100mA to the device until enumeration (driver is loaded properly) takes place. Once the driver is loaded fine, it can supply up to 500mA for charging. This is why you should never let a device that uses a lithium-ion battery and can charge from a USB port discharge too low. This is also why using an AC wall charger is beneficial; it supplies the rated output of current when plugged in and doesn't rely on any kind of enumeration to take place to supply the higher charging current.<O

Keep charging with the AC wall charger until it's fully charged. Then try charging with USB. Make sure you have a good connection with the Zen Sleek and the computer. Make sure the computer loads the driver properly. That way you know the Zen is getting the full charging power.<O</O
