Question Sansa Parts?

Hi there, well, I messed up my sansa e280 (America). After upgrading my e280 with firmware 1.12.20P, but naming the firmware as "firmware.mi4", only the blue wheel is on. The funny thing is that, after the upgrade, the device started Ok. I even checked the firmware version, and it was really the one that I wanted. Then I started putting songs on it. When I restarted it to refresh the database, only the blue light was on. I tried the recover through "manufacturing mode", but Linux isnt detecting my sansa.

Well, I took my e280 to a guy that fixes mp3 and stuff. He got one e250, and used one little part, that removable from the board. I dont know what is called, but after fixing it on my e280, there was the beautiful "Sandisk" animation.

Since Im here in Brazil, sending my sansa back to Sandisk with the risk of not getting a new e280, it costs me the price of a new device (yeah, international shipping is expensive).

I'd say the "part" is the daughterboard, so you'd probably have a hard time finding a Sansa that is for sale while not being bricked like yours. Linux usually detects the Sansa if it's put into Manufacturing Mode correctly. Try doing what it says in the FAQ for going into Manufacturing mode (turn off power, turn on hold, press select, and press power, IIRC) and plug the Sansa into your computer, and post the output of the command 'lsusb'

Chris, like I understood on the FAQ, see if Im forgetting something:

1. Turn Off
2. Then Hold Button
3. Press and Hold that big button on the center
4. Connect the usb cable which makes e280 turn on automatically
5. The center button is on hold

There it is.

I run lsusb and nothing happends...

What distro are you using? Make sure you're running lsusb from the terminal, but if it isn't showing anything then there's possibly something wrong with the computer. On my computer:

jack@dcerouter:~$ lsusb
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

Im using Ubuntu, which is the one that the FAQ recommends...

But, now, Im reading your way of getting in "Manu...mode". Am I doing the right thing? I read this "press power, IIRC". Sorry but, what is IIRC?

And I tried on another computer...

Yes, what you did to get into Man. Mode is correct - IIRC stands for if I recall correctly. I'm using Kubuntu, but it seems odd that lsusb didn't work. Did you open up the terminal and type in lsusb, or do something different?

No, Im following what the FAQ says.

And when I type "lsusb", I can see my mouse connected. The other usb port, where e280 is connected, is like this:

Bus 002 Device 002: ID 0000:0000

Im praying for the guy that left his sansa because of a broken LCD, give up on his e250, so that I can take the daughterboard...
