Help I have been thinking about putting Rockbox on my Sansa, some Q's...

Is Rockbox actually a 'mod'/hack, or is it just another program that runs alongside the normal kind in there? Is it illegal to put games on it? How do you get themes, etc? Can you make your Sansa go back to normal?
I have read some of the general FAQ about it, just making sure...

all you need to know is it does not void your warranty, and from what i have read and seen, it is safer than the original firmware

it is dual boot, so you can run both should you need to. Rockbox has its own games library. You can find roms for the game boy emulator, and there ARE legal issues with them that i am sure i dont need to get into. Other rom based games included are pacbox and rockdoom. The rule about rom games is DONT ASK FOR ROMS OR DOOM WADS.

I am pretty new with Rockbox on the Sansa, but this is my third Rockboxed player (iriver h320 and toshiba gigabeat f40) and it is pretty much the same.

Good luck, you should totally try rockbox. Kugel's build has a bunch of great compatable themes included with it. Thats whats on my player now. If you get the Rockbox installer, it makes things very easy and its also easy to uninstall Rockbox if you dont want it.

Lordofbbq, you can read the Rockbox manual at www.rockbox.org, and it has lots of info.

Edit: Kugel's build is a custom build.

ok.
do you just download a theme from rockbox-themes.org then extract the files to the main menu part of the sansa e260 folder? Then thats it? what does the normal theme already on rockbox look like?

If you look up CabbieV2 on the Rockbox WPS Gallery, that is the default theme. Some of the other themes might be broken since they have changed the default theme. It took me time to fix my favorite theme the right way.

Edit: Here is the default theme page: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/DefaultWPS

Yes, there are several builds here by folks that include extra patches and features beyond the official build. Some of these builds emphasize different things so you might wish to check out the threads on the various builds to see which one will meet your needs best. In fact, you if you have time you can try several out.

At the moment I'm using Kugel's stable build.
