Wow, amazing... a changelog that doesn't deal exclusively with some notepad or calculator crap for once! Incredible...

So what happened to 2.56 and 4.56?

Of course on the D2 spec page they listed it as 1000 folders and 8000 files but right below they said 4000 files/folders built-in and 4000 files/folders external.

It's evident someone has a counting problem (2.55 -> 2.57 and the files/folders not adding up).

There's no continuous numbering with the firmwares... they just didn't release 2.56. There also never was a 2.52, 2.49, etc.

Anyone upgrade to this yet? Downloading this as I type.
EDIT: Upgraded to 2.57 and its great. No probs with the sd card after install and
boot speed is 4-6 secs. Uses new boot-bar and is pretty fast overall.

Crossposting from iAudiophile:

Just a heads up: upgrading from 2.55 to 2.57 went without any flaw for me. This is a new one... since 2.51 I had to brick my D2, use FWDN and Tcctool on a regular basis to beat the damn firmwares into submission. What a pleasant surprise.

I upgraded the regular 0/1/2 way, cleared the memory via the system settings, transferred data to the internal memory in one go (10MB free), and popped in my full 8GB card (20MB free). No database or tag issues.

I think this has to do that my latest 2.55 install went really well, after several tries. So the path was clear for 2.57 to not act up. Dunno if the "clear memory" setting has anything to do with it, but from now on it's going to be my personal placebo/voodoo ritual for upgrading.

And here's the obligatory RMAA tests:

http://rmaa.elektrokrishna.com/Compa...2016%20Ohm.htm

("Frank" means the player of a friend of mine, which behaved a little differently than mine with 2.55, but similar to my new 2.57 install.)

So what's the difference between 2.57 and 4.57? Is it like 01.01.29A vs 01.01.29E in that's it regional?

2.xx are the international firmwares for regular D2's.
4.xx firmwares are for DAB (digital radio) enabled D2's.

Thanks! And 3.xx?

Also, now that you've worked with it a few days: Uberstable? All the features I'll ever need?

3.xx is the Korean firmware which has Flash GUI, dictionary, no MTP (only MSC).

Yes, 2.57 is as stable as 2.20, 2.51, and the other "good" releases for me. No problems so far. It doesn't have any "features" that weren't already in 2.50 or 2.51 (at least for my needs) but it should be great for 16GB players and SD cards due to the boosted file/folder specs.

what, rename the folders? wow who told you this nonsense? are you talking about how to install a Theme? copy the D2N_rs.bin file into the ROOT of the D2. ROOT is where you see all Folders MUSIC, PICTURES, SYSTEM, FLASH, Etc.

if your meaning how to install firmware then all you do is copy the content from Folder 0 to the ROOT of the D2. then you unplug and turn on the D2. the 1st step of the Firmware upgrade will begin. when D2 shuts off plug the D2 back into PC and copy all content from Folder 1 onto the ROOT and unplug then do the same thing with folder 2 "copy content/unplug/turn on/restart/DONE!"

the D2N_rs.bin File is automatically deleted from the ROOT so all you do is drag&drop a new Theme to replace it. it will go through the Resource upgrade process.

And to reverse to the original theme, drag and drop the D2N_rs.bin from your firmware folder to root of your D2. Easy!
