Default Battery life..50hrs vs 20 hrs

As a huge fan of the D2 I use it every day for as long as possbile. But now after 8 months my battery life has gone from 50 hrs to 20 hrs max playing only music! I have a 16GB sdhc card which could lead to some loss, but this seams a bit extreme. any experience with this?

Recording Radio kills battery life really fast
Watching video kills battery life really fast
I am no where near getting the 50 hrs that it says in the spec
I guess it's only natural considering how many times you have charged it (lithium battery capacity decreases with every charge) + memory card takes up battery.

Yea, I get around 30 hours of use if I am scarce, and my D2 is only a few months old if that.

The 52h rating is a lab conditions test result. a real life usage is around the 30-35h.
I tested my D2's battery when i bought it 8 months ago - used a 128kbp album on a loop, didnt use the screen, all effects and EQ were off, i managed to reach 46h.
I tested again a few weeks ago with the same settings and the result was 44h.
i dont know if the 2h lose is because of the battery degradation or maybe a firmware change, since the first test was done with 2.51 and the last one was with 3.54.

Yeah, I've only seen one player that ever actually got close to what the specs said, and it actually exceeded the specs battery life. Its an old Sony though, and has an actual battery of 65 hours, at half volume. I think it was only rated at 60 hours.

Something very interesting things to note about Lithium batteries...

Devices with a power gauge should be calibrated by applying a deliberate full discharge once every 30 charges. Running the battery down in the equipment does this. If ignored, the power gauge will become increasingly less accurate and in some cases cut off the device prematurely.
Avoid frequent full discharges because this puts additional strain on the battery. Several partial discharges with frequent recharges are better for lithium batteries than one deep one. Recharging a partially charged lithium battery does not cause harm because there is no memory.

52 hours is for AUDIO not video or recording.

... and only for 128k MP3, no EQ/BBE, backlight off, no track skipping, etc, etc... typical fairytale measurements. Still, the real-world battery life on my D2 is still pretty good after ~16 months.

I only ran my battery dry 3 or 4 times, I usually keep my D2 plugged into an USB port when I don't use it. That's what Li-Ion batteries like. Read more about battery care here: http://www.batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-34.htm
