Default Zen freeze, reset, freeze, reset, etc

Purchased my Zen 8g player yesterday. What is wrong with it? I put on my audio books and can't listen. I also loaded ten pictures. It just freezes over and over.

Off the top of my head, it sounds like it could be a firmware issue. However, rather than muck about with that, since you just bought the thing, I'd suggest just taking it back to the store for an exchange for another one.

Well, you can take it back right away or you can try a couple of fixes (that won't take long) to see if it resolves your issue. Although, there is no problem in taking it back. After all, I wouldn't expect a new device to do this as well. So I wouldn't blame you at all if you just returned it for another. If you do decide to try a couple of things before returning it, read on.

Yeah it does sound like a firmware issue and or even a file system issue. In addition to reloading/upgrading the firmware you can also try booting into Recovery Mode and doing a Disk Cleanup to see if that helps. If not, make sure you have copies of the files you put on the Zen, boot into the Recovery Mode again and select the Reformat option. This will erase your files and re-create the file system. Copy over your files again to see if that corrects it.

Check out the Zen FAQ (my signature below) for directions on how to do these step-by-step. Good luck and welcome to ABI!

Edit: Oh, what formats are your audio files and pictures in?

I've had this issue quite a lot so far, best way to fix it is doing a disk cleanup like the guy above said. Then simply reboot it.
