I am interested in replacing the earbud earphones that came with the player with either an over the ear or behind the head headphones. One of my concerns is to ensure that the headphones still work with the player's FM radio. The player uses the headphone wires as an antenna for the radio. Specifically, the headphones must have a ground line running the length of the cord. Creative says that normally these are the type that are sold for use with Walkmans.
I am looking to pay about $50 for the phones. Can anyone recommend the best headphones that would meet these specifications? Thanks |

Thanks for the reply but I am not really interested in earbuds.

I'd recommend the Koss KSC-75, for $15ish you can't go wrong. Best value headphone IMHO.

All stereo headphones I'm aware of use the ground as a signal return path, so it runs the full length. I suppose an inline volume control might interupt this, but I'd be surprised.
Another consideration is the cord length. Since the cord is the antenna the length is important, and too long isn't better (for reception). Check the length of the cord that came with the Zen's earphones and stay close. My Koss PortaPros sound great and I like the fit, but the cord is about 6 feet long -- I'd guess it wouldn't work well as an FM antenna (although I haven't tried). |
