Default 4GB Clip at BestBuy

Yes, I realize this may be old news. I was just surprised to see the 4GB clips at my local (Kansas, USA) BestBuy this weekend. I came within 1/2 impulse of buying one, but already owning a Samsung P2 I'm spoiled by bluetooth. I'd pay an extra $10 if they would stick bluetooth in one of these clip-on players. The 4GBs in BestBuy had apparently just been put on display. They had no price, and the clerk couldn't tell me what they were selling for. He though they might be there for a sale next weekend, but wasn't sure.

Actually, thanks for the information--this is very not-old-news! In fact, as far as I am aware, this is the first "sighting" in an actual physical store!

Good then! I had scanned all the 4gig threads and seen that some people had them, but everyone mentioned getting them straight from Sandisk or Amazon. Glad I could provide some news.

I'm very tempted to get one just to play with. Given the clue (or lack of one) the salesman had I might wait until the next ad comes out.

And this just proves that Kansas City once again is the center of the world (well, at least the U.S.).

Fear not, friend. According to the Feature List on the UK Sandisk 4GB Clip webpage, the European version looks set to have 4x the battery life of its US counterpart.

Now, if only that were true and not a typo..!!!

I assume you're referring to this.

Up to 60 hours of play time with internal rechargeable battery***
Yep--the speculation has been that this refers to how many of hours of music one can fit on the Clip (although that doesn't seem to work out either), not how long the battery will last per charge.

Am I the only one who thinks that plastic mp3 players in silver color is ugly? I also don't like the idea of having players with a certain amount of storage only in a specific color. I like the idea of having all capacity sizes available in all the colors available.

Yep, indeedy. I think it must be a typo, as the equivalent page on the US site quotes 15hrs...

The footnote for US states "***Based on continuous playback at 128 kbps MP3; 64 kbps WMA"

...whereas UK "***Based on continuous playback at 128 kbps MP3; rechargeable batteries may require eventual replacement; actual life and performance may vary based on usage patterns."

The latter sounds a little sketchy to me!

Or maybe it's just the inflation when converting from U.S. to EU, given the dismal tumble the U.S. dollar has taken in comparison to EU currency in the past 1-2 years ...

(And actually, thinking about it some more, I think the 60 hours of playtime might reflect approximately how much 64 kbps WMA music one could fit on a 4 gb player.)

I might prefer one if the case was clear. OK, the insides might not be worth looking at, but it would be original.

This from SanDisk:

The UK site has a typo. It should be 15hrs. I appreciate you bringing this to our attention, we should have it changed shortly.

Sincerely,
