Zune vs Zune Toshiba copy

Hi, i have heard that Toshiba copied the zunes look when the companies where working together. But Is the Zune Toshiba copy best or is the original Zune best?

I think it is the other around. The Toshiba Gigabeat S series is like the Zune 30. If you look at the dates, the Gigabeat S series came before the Zune.

Anyways, it just depends on who you talk to.

Yes, i think so, but they took the design from windows, i think.

The Zune 30 is pretty much a re-branded and re-skinned Toshiba player. Toshiba helped MS design it as their first foray into the DAP market. Read about it on a few sites before I had gotten my Zune 30 & 80 (Sold the 80 cause it didn't have an EQ & I was neglecting the 30 so I got it a better home). With all the updates the Zune 30 feels more original than it really is though.

I dont know, but maybe toshiba took the look and released it directly before Microsoft did it.

NO,....... Toshiba HELPED MS with the Zune 30 and enabled MS to come into the DAP market. The Zune 80 (and the flash Zunes also) are supposed to be all MicroSoft - they went solo on that 1.

This is correct Zune 30 is a reference design taken from the Toshiba Gigabeat S series. MS did this just so they could get something to the market quickly. Their intentions were always to manufacture their own hardware. This was just a quick fix.

Zune 80 and Zune 4/8 desinged, built, and manufactured by MS.

The Gigabeat S looks like the Zune interface because it is MS's Portable Media Center platform wich they used as a starting point for the Zune's interface.

The PMC os still lives on as Windows Embeded as seen in the newer Gigabeats like the T series.

Not really as it still has the old style control wheel (prob not click like the Zune 30 - just similar looking) and looks like a different device based on the Windows Media Center UI that Toshiba has in the T400 DAP. Totally looks like an updated Gigabeat actually (and I really wish it had made it to the USA!!! It's HOTT!!!).

PS: This article you linked to has been around for awhile - it's old news. Though, to be honest, I really wan't this for myself.

This is not an IF... I am not basing this on hearsay, this is what the product team told me to my face as i sat in their offices in Redmond, WA.

Then what was the point of your post? You should look at the history between MS & Toshiba and then make your point clear. Just adds confusion to this thread is all.
