you can put R firmware on non R players. I accidentally did it when un-bricking my player after the 1.03.01H firmware bricked it. Just use the recovery instructions for Rhapsody models found on this forum.

It is possible, but you still cant use Rhapsody channels and this would be one of the only reasons for switching.
