It's a program that allows you to forcefully flash the firmware of your P2.

what happens is: just another window pops up (not from FWDN) and says:

Found New Hardware:

Windows needs to install driver software for your Unknown Device;
* Locate and install driver software (recommended)
* Ask me again later
* Don't show this message again for this device

I held down the power button for like 5 minutes but FWDN wouldn't show anything
Isn't there anything I can do?
I have the exact same problem as onchou.

I had already changed my firmware from EU MTP to KR UMS just under a year ago but the headphone jack recently gave out so I thought I should change it back to EU MTP before I took it back to be serviced under warranty. Maybe this was a bad idea?

Would be nice to get this going again before the warranty expires in exactly 10 days... Otherwise I'll have to buy a S9.

EDIT: SOLVED

onchou (and others in the same situation) should do step 7 before step 5 so the the instructions read as follows:
1. Open the FWDN.exe application.
2. Load the ROM of the New FW. (Some users have problems loading the ROM of the New FW, if you are one of those users, load the ROM of the Old FW. Thanks to hardcase for this info.)
3. Enter to Options>Preferences, and change the SDRAM Size to: 32M-32bit-0x20000000
3. Connect the P2 to the computer.
4. Press and hold the power button. While pressing the power button, press the reset button once, DON'T RELEASE THE POWER BUTTON.
5. Windows will show a "New hardware found" window for an USB Device. Install the drivers using the vtcdrv.sys file that is inside the zip with the FWDN software.
6. The FWDN will show a little window telling that it is updating the SDRAM.
7. When the window closes automatically, the FWDN, will show these on the screen.

Code:
Device Inserted

Device Removed
When this appears, release the power button. The FWDN software will then show something like this:

Code:
Device Inserted

Device Removed

Device Inserted

-------- TARGET DEVICE INFORMATION ---------
Device Type : NAND Drive
Device Serial Number Type : SN_VALID_32
Device Serial Number : [ 00000000000000000000000]
Device Hidden Size : 202240 pages
Device SDRAM Configuration Value : 0x22E92010
Thanks sotodefonk for the instructions!

Default Using this Fix for a Looping Screen Caused by DRM/WMA Music Download (Not FW Upgrade)

Sotodefonk! Thank you for your instructions! They allowed me to revive my Samsung YP-P2!

I had previously changed the region code and mode (EU/MSC) on my P2 without incident, but then sometime later it started looping at the start-up screen, right after I had uploaded some music. At first I didn’t know what was causing the loop, I had to go through all the steps on Page One (and the revision on Page Nine) of this post a few times removing variables before I discovered the cause: I had downloaded some WMA files without the necessary play rights.

I’ve rewritten the instructions slightly for my process (which might help someone else with a similar problem).

Using this Fix for a Looping Screen Caused by DRM/WMA Music Download (Not Firmware Upgrade):
  1. Download the FWDN.exe application here: http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=5166&d=1213684526 and unzip. (Using this link requires that you are member of the forum. It took a day or so for my membership link to be validated.) FWDN appears to stand for FirmWare DowNload; it’s a program, as I understand it, which allows communication between your computer and your player’s Telechips processor for downloading a firmware update.
  2. Open the FWDN program (it doesn’t install into the Start Menu programs, so I just opened it from inside the folder I unzipped it to).
  3. Choose File > Open ROM File > and then select the firmware file for transfer. (I choose an older version of the firmware because I thought I might have to start over with changing the region code and mode.)
  4. Choose Options > Preferences > Target Configuration > SDRAM Size > 32M-32Bit-0x20000000 and click Apply.
  5. Connect the P2 to your computer.
  6. Press and hold the power button and without releasing it press the reset button once.
  7. The first time you do this, Windows will display a “New Hardware Found” message. Install the drivers by selecting the vtcdrv.inf file included inside the zip file in which FWDN came.
  8. FWDN then displays a message saying it is updating the SDRAM. When the message closes, the FWDN screen will show:

    Device Inserted
    Device Removed

  9. At this point, release the power button. The FWDN show will show:

    Device Inserted
    Device Removed
    Device Inserted
    -------- TARGET DEVICE INFORMATION --------
    Device Type: NAND Drive
    Device Serial Number Type: SN_VALID*32
    Device Serial Number: [00000000000000000000000]
    Device Hidden Size: 202240 pages
Device SDRAM Configuration Value : 0x22E92010

(Your Serial Number, and probably the SDRAM Value, will be different.) If this information does not appear, disconnect the P2 and start over at step three (skipping step seven since the Telechips drivers are already installed).
  10. Press the Target Writing > START (WRITE) Button. A pop-up progress window will appear and then the message “Writing complete!” Click OK and continue.
  11. Disconnect the P2 and turn it on. It will begin the updating process and then show the message: “Update resource file” (or something like that, depending on your firmware version).
  12. Reconnect the P2 to your computer. (For my player, since I had previously changed the region code and mode [EU/MSC], it was immediately recognized as an MSC device and appeared in Windows Explorer as a drive letter.)
  13. Copy any files from the player that you want to save using Explorer.
  14. Right-click the P2 drive in Explorer and select format. All files will be deleted. (Note that since my problem was not a failed firmware update, there was no YPP2.RSC file that needed to be deleted. In my case, it was a WMA file that was causing the loop, but since I hadn’t narrowed it down to that yet, I followed the general advice to reformat.)
  15. After reformatting, copy the YPP2.RSC and YPP2.ROM versions of the firmware that you want to the root of the drive. (I started over with version 1.15.)
  16. Disconnect the P2. The player turns off.
  17. Turn the player on. It displays “Upgrading Firmware”, and then turns itself off. (Some models need to be turned on and off twice for the upgrade to be successful.)
  18. Turn the player on again. Check the software version in the Settings > System > About tab.
Thanks again to sotodefonk and ABI Forums for bringing my player back to life!

Tim Robertson

Can someone tell me where i can find the FWDN.exe file for download? When I download from the link on the first page, and try to unzip the file, it says the archive is corrupt or unknown format, even though it is a .zip file. Help please!!

I just tried it with Winrar, it works fine. Download the archive again and extract it with Winrar or 7-Zip.
