c140 - Updating firmware failed

Hi everyone !

I hope you are doing fine. My girfriend has a Sansa c140. After she loaded the player with some songs (using MSC mode in XP), the device started to present problems. When she turned it on there weren't any texts on screen. We have connected the player to PC and the computer recognized it as a MTP player, but it is impossible to access the its folders. I have tried to update it using the c100_1.0.005a_FirmwareUtility. I have followed all the instructions carefully, but it failed. I also read that there's another utility version c100_20008A, but it is necessary to paste the file PLAYER.ROM in the main folder of the player. However, I can't access any folder of the player.

Does anybody knows how can I try to fix it ? Is there any other solution ? Her Sansa was used for only 10 months.
