They only seem to offer UMS for sale in certain regions. A few posters have reported that they bought their player in UMS mode, but this is the exception to the rule. The vast majority of users get their player in MTP mode and that's the way it's supposed to stay. All firmwares offered everywhere are exactly the same and contain the features for either mode built in to the firmware. They were smart in not making different region coded firmwares and sticking with one universal one, although it does make for a rather tedious update process when you want to change So yeah, there will never be a "UMS firmware" because there is no specific region/mode coded firmware.

In your case, I would recommend downgrading to the 1.15 firmware, then upgrading and changing to the 1.20 UMS using the guide. I know it's a pain to get another computer, but it's going to be a one time thing.

Default Ok so...
The guide says to downgrade to 1.15, but then slowly upgrade back to the latest and greatest version (which I'm currently running).

Will staying on 1.20 keep me in UMS mode or something?

No, but once you're in UMS you shouldn't have any problem upgrading to the latest/greatest 3.15 from your home machine. I was just thinking about the time thing if you're paying for the time to use the computer or something. Upgrading without changing the config.dat file does not change your region or mode. The problem with upgrading past the 1.xx firmwares is that (at least for 2.xx) the config.dat file does not take if you try to use it with a blue wave firmware. So you have to go from 1.15 to 1.20 to get the config.dat file to take and change your mode. Once you're in UMS on 1.20 firmware, you can upgrade straight to 3.15 and it will remain UMS and you can do this from any computer.

Well, I was a little hesitant to change to UMS at first, but since the solution to fix a "bricked" P2 was released, I decided to go for it.
I followed the guide and upgraded from US MTP to EU UMS. Worked perfectly the first time. Thanks!

I've been thinking of changing my P2 from American MTP to Korean UMS.

Does American Samsung Media Studio support UMS P2s?

I'm trying to upgrade my firmware but It will not let me drag & drop the 2 files and WMP will not let me upgrade either. The software that came with my p2 will not either. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong... Thanks

Where are you trying to drag and drop them? What is the name of the folder you're putting them in, or trying to?

Which firmware are you looking for? I have them all on my pc and can upload the one you want. By the way what link are you trying to use? The one's sassafras posted download just fine.

What do you mean? The links in your post even work. When you click them an explorer window pops up briefly then opens a window with options "open, save or cancel"

Know What, I think the files are too large for the max allowance. If I put as a link you probably won't be able to get them since links don't seem to be working 4 u. Do you have that problem with all links? Other option is via e-mail

What's the max size your e-mail will allow?, Cuz' can compress them in winrar. How long have you had this link problem? Also, have you always had ie and firefox together, it shouldn't, but might be conflicting with each other
