Default 16G P2 coming?

I heard that Sammy is putting out 16G P2 in the near future, can anyone confirm that? If it's true, I'd love to get my paws on one of these baby~

Sell your old one on Ebay unless you've got your receipt and are within the return period. Buy a larger one with your refund or income from the sale.

I don't doubt the P2 will come out with 16gb. With the way chips advance and prices drop, I don't even doubt we'll see a 32gb model. Of course as quick as models change, the 32gb P2 may actually look a bit different and be called a YP-P3 or somesuch.

What would really be kick-ass is if Samsung decided to run a program where you could send in your P2 and for a fee have them upgrade the memory!

This is provided that it's economically beneficial to them and that it's relatively easy to just swap out the RAM chips. But we can hope!
*more like dream, but I like hope better*

So what would you do with a 16gb P2? My total music collection grows slowly, and is right now at about 14GB. I could put every song I have on there. Or would you use the extra space for movies? Fill it up with e-books (text)? Audio Books? Perhaps just use it as a large capacity file transport device?

Anyway just curious. I find 8gb is plenty of room at the moment since I don't want to listen to most of my collection and it is easy to swap it around.

I just bought a movie from CinemaNow, and it takes up 778mb of space on the P2. I'm not sure I'm gonna buy any more. About the same price as the DVD with none of the features and lower resolution. I used the $10 new member coupon to get the price down, but like I said the value/price is questionable.

I'm gonna have to see if the jalbreakers figure out how to crack open iTunes rented movies so they can be (potentially) put on other devices like the P2.

I'd Deff buy one of these 16GB / 32 GB Players if they emerge.
I doubt Sammy would bring out a 32GB model, 16GBs sounds sensible though.
If they price this 16GB player cheaper than it's Apple counterpart, there could be success in it.

Well Samsung makes flash memory. It is used in Ram modules and I guess the P2 also uses memory made by samsung so its definitely going to be cheaper imho

I think I already saw one listed at one of the Best Buy sites, or something like that.

Samsung better get going. I've been asking all the stores around here when they will get the 32gb iPod Touch in stock, and they are all saying "hopefully soon, as we've had a number of requests for them". The clerk at my university union Apple store told me this morning he thinks the 32gb capacity will convince many poeple that didn't buy a touch earlier to invest, as the larger capacity meshes better with the Touch application potential than the smaller memory ones do. If Samsung would just skip 16gb and go right to 32gb that would make better sense to me. Make a 32gb P2 and sell it for $349ish and then release an SDK for it. I'll buy a dozen.

Default 'how about what Grahm Skee reported?

Just wondering about the question discussed in this thread. Went back and reread the Jan. 13 08 report by Grahm Skee posted on this site. Here's what he said:

Quote:
"Samsung had nothing new to show in terms of MP3 players, but I did find out from a Samsung rep that they will be releasing a 16GB version of the P2 sometime in Q1 of 08."
It's now the beginning of March, and still no official news. If I knew for sure that the 16gig model is coming out, I might wait to buy one of those instead of the 8 gig.

Just can't imagine Mr. Skee making this up, or misreporting what the Samsung rep said -- nor would it make sense for the Samsung rep to start an unfounded rumor. So I'm willing to believe the 16gig is coming.

Just the question is, when?

Anybody got any better info from out there in gadget land?

Talking

i don't know if they are going to make a 16gb version but i can make my 4GB version feel like double by using highly efficient codecs. For music, i found that a 64kbsec AACplus encoded song produce no detectable difference compared to a 128kbsec mp3 while being half the size. For movies a resizable 320x240 wmv is almost as good as a 480x272 avi/svc and been also almost half the size....
