Default Sony without SonicStage? other recommendations...?

i'm looking for a good, small player (1-4GB) that supports AAC and has a radio. really. thats all i need. oh, and with a screen and options to find music by artist, album, etc.

i have repeatedly heard terrible things about sonicstage, which deters me greatly from the sony mp3 players. i think i read recently that sony put out a new player that doesn't require sonicstage, though, and can't find that article.

does anyone know what i may be referring to? have any other recommendations of players that fit these needs?

Sonicstage is a thing of the past. The new Sony A800 and S600 series doesn't require that horrible crap. They appear to be very good audio players, without any hoops to jump through.

actually, the a800 series does use sonicstage. a810 series on the other hand. both those two are so cheap i suggest you go for the 8GB version, either s618 or a818. they are practically identical in tech specs, s618 has a radio, a818 has 0.2" bigger screen (same resolution). Personally i like the s618 design better, smaller and less weirdo-looking

Yeah, I meant A81x and S61x... not the "zeroes".

the S618 is better the A818. The controls look more modern and solid. It has rounded corners that look prettier and finally can get confused with a mobile phone haha. Believe or not it has happened to me before.

Well, the 81x is metal, the 61x is plastic...

Judging by my metal X5L, nothing beats that feeling... plastic sure feels creaky and inferior in any case.

Go with the Sony A818. Price is great. The player is AWESOME. 2" screen. Player is made of metal and well built. People I show it to love the design.

The Sony S618 looks like a plastic toy.

The A818 for the win!!!

Since the original poster wants an FM radio, there obviously is no choice anyway - since only the 61x has a radio...

The S610 is smaller but a bit thicker and viceversa. No it doesn't look like a toy!! It is well built also. Yes I know metal feels better and its more resistant, BUT heavier .

cowboy: If you are not going to use it for video then S610 is the way to go. Trust me I was skeptical at first, but after 2 days of owning it I realized that I have chosen correctly
