Default custom menu and splash

Can someone please give/direct me to a guide on how to simply customize menus?

Also, Is there a patch needed to set custom splash pages?

Thank you in advance for any/all help you can give me. I stumbled across this forum about a month ago, it introduced me to rockbox, and it has been VERY useful to me since I installed it a couple weeks ago.

Sigh, this (old) version of firefox doesn't save my post if I navigate away..

My build has a modified version of Kugel's patch that allows you to hide nearly every item in the root menu. I believe Kugel plans to include a patch similar to that in his build, when he does his next update. Cpchan's build has a patch in it to change the boot logo. Aside from that, you'd have to do change both from source.

Kugel's build lets you have all the extra items or none, Chris's build lets you select which to have individually.

I hope that a patch like that, the one in Chris's build, that lets you add 'shortcuts' to the main menu to go to places in the file browser (like music, videos, photo) gets submitted to svn, then when viewports gets submitted I'll be able to use svn happily!

sorry for the confusion...I wanted to know if there was an "easy" way of doing it from source, meaning not having to learn all the code (i doubt there is but I figured it was worth a try)

but thank you for the info about the splash screen!

Edit: I mainly want to do it from source because I'm trying to compile my own build. I will share when its done too, so dont worry lol

That patch was already closed, so I really doubt it'd happen

A 'quick' way would just be to remove the item (&file_browser for example) from apps/root_menu.c

and to add items? that would be the hard part wouldn't it?

also would rearranging the items be as simple as rearranging their order in the code?

My goal for the Main Menu is:
Database
Playlists
Videos (via the patch to put videos/pictures on main menu)
Plugins
Recording
FM Radio
Files
Sleep Timer
Settings
System

Resume Playback could be eliminated due to the patch taht lets you go to the WPS by hitting play (patch 7871)

I am sorry for the (noob?) questions but I do not know C, though from looking at the code it is not too terribly hard to learn (I may take the initiative to learn it if this is going to be as much work as I think it is.) Thank you again for the help chrisjs, and keep it coming if you think of anything that could help me!

My menu is pretty close to that. It doesn't have the sleep timer option though, you'd still have to go through settings.

yup...i put recording and plugins a bit higher on my list though, I'm actually using your build currently (until I get my build up, if that ever happens). This is probably going to be the last thing I work on since it seems it will be quite hard for me. (plus I need to have the video file on the menu before I can rearrange the list anyways
