is there a way to boot multiple rockbox versions?

The easiest way to boot multiple versions is to either have something like this:

and rename .rockbox to .rockbox-official and .rockbox-kugel to .rockbox, or to select the rockbox.mi4 file for the different build. Method one is more stable, but configuration files aren't transferred to other builds, while method two would use the same configuration file, but may not work if the build dates are too far apart.

The reason there can't be a way to boot multiple rockbox versions is because the /.rockbox directory is hard coded, so it wouldn't be different from method two.
