P2 Full UMS/MSC! (Thanks to GMP3)

For US people updating with the US version of the firmware, just change the config.dat file to "US US UMS" and it will update fine.

1) You have to find a "config" file
It is not in the new firmwares anymore but in the older like the 1.11 FR (I'm french sorry lol) it is
so you can download it here:

2) Open it and modify it :
from

YP-P2
FR FR MTP

to

YP-P2
EU EU UMS

(EU because FR has a sound level limitation)
3) Copy the 3 files at the root:
-YPP2.rom
-YPP2.RSC
-config.DAT
4) The test has been realized with the 1.11 firmware but I think you can use any firmware: you just have to add this config file when you copy your YPP2.rom and YPP2.RSC files into the P2

Heh you finally got to open your P2!! yea!! you to right click on the config.dat and open it in notepad...and change the wordings there. it'll be really helpful to read this whole thread as most of the questions you'll have will problaby be answered already....:P have fun!

Hi, all.
Just bought the P2 a few dayz ago and lovin it.
Don't quite understand all the fuss about changing from MTP to UMS. If drag an drop is all that you guys want...this is possible in MTP mode as well, so why changing? I use drag an drop to transfer movie files. I dont want to use drag an drop for pictures because this way won't give you the thumbnails for the pictures so I just use SMS.
And for mp3 transfer I just use mediaMonkey cause its easier for me to create playlists this way and modify the ID tags and add albumart to a mp3 file that hasn't got any albumart yet.
Have upgraded firmware to version 2.08 and works great! Can answer phonecalls with my P2 and dial through a dialpad. One bad side is that I haven't been able to transfer contacts thru bluetooth yet! Maybe cause I have Win Mobile 6 phone, I thought that shouldn't be a prob cause my HTC 3600i have all the supported bluetooth profile, but just haven't figured out yet how to transfer...maybe somebody else manage to do so?

@johnny64: You should search the forums, I remember seeing links to threads about the pros and cons of MTP and UMS. There you'll find some reasons, why some people have to convert their devices to UMS...

And to your other question: This thread is not appropriate for it... You should take a look in the 2.08 FW sticky thread, there are some hints, on how to transfer contacts. The main reason is that your P2 and phone may not be connected to transfer files/contacts.

anyone uses rhapsody subscription and UMS succesfully? I can't put subscription files in so I have to go to MTS. If I want to add lyrics, back to UMS and then they don't play =(
I have to flash the entire darn firmware (i'm hating this, my sansa e280 could easily switch back n forth). any easy way to flip back n forth between modes? I'm using KR 2.08

you dont need to use a certain version, you're free to choose, korean offers the most but the european has RDS radio... you choose!

RDS radio displays the station and i believe the song that is playing, but im not sure if its here in canada thoug

Once i switched over to KR and UMS i have not been able to play any WMV (windows media video files) i dont know if this happened when i formatted the player (because for it to switch to ums and kr i had to)

has anyone else who switched and had the problem saying "Not Supported Format" ?

im having trouble converting to KR firmware...
I changed config file to KR KR UMS and put that file in to p2 with other firmware files.
restart p2
and i still have US firmware...
can someone help.

Hey, if I change my V.208 Firmware to US US UMS, will I have to change it back to US US MTP before I install the new V3.08 Firmware?
