Default Gapless support?

I'm thinking about buying the 618. Does it support gapless playback?

as of this time it does not support gapless, however the gap is very small...

I also like gap less but the sound quality of this player is just miles above everything else i decided to live without it.

Thanks. I've been debating between a Sony, Creative Player (saw a Vision M Refurb on buy.com for $99), or a Sana View. However, the view is low on the list. I've heard the Sansa's don't have great audio quality.

There is a possibility that sony could add gapless support with a firmware upgrade, it is unknown if and when a firmware upgrade is due.

I read a lot about gapless requests in players, and I think the portable players don't has this feature because of a reason. I do not know that reason, maybe this is forcing people to use (and buy) audio Cd-s (as they are gapless).

Only ONE company has to give gapless on every players of its, and everyone will follow them with their first firmware upgrade. But this didn't come by now in 2007...

Your speculations are a bit off...

One of the reasons is that the MP3 codec was never designed for gapless playback. Players that already support gapless (like iPod, Trekstor Vibez, Rio, Rockboxed ones) use "workarounds" to achieve gapless playback.

Other formats like Ogg Vorbis or FLAC were designed with gapless in mind, but somehow many companies seem to screw it up in their firmwares.
