I Found this post earlier today.
Here's a link to the actual .zip so you don't have to use the stupid Sansa Updater. As of now I have know idea what has been updated in this version. If I find anything new, I'll post it. Enjoy http://forums.sandisk.com/sansa/boar...&thread.id=851 1.They have removed the Thumbnails for videos. Which is good because it caused a lot of trouble. 2. Videos don't want to fast forward. It starts to, then returns you to the video list. Not cool at all. Having "Display Art in List" on or off made no difference. This is all I've noticed so far. Anyone else have trouble with it? I decided to do a rollback because I did not like the way things were going. I then realized I should finish testing the new Firmware, reloaded it and what da know everything works fine now. Not only does it fast forward correctly, it no longer hangs up when rewinding.(don't know if others had this problem with Firmware 1.00.03) Under "info" in settings the number of pics no longer includes Album Art. So it seems I was wrong at first, if you run in to problems try to re install the update. Later |

I've noticed that the new firmware saves your place in each podcast. I've moved to other songs and other podcasts. When you return to each podcast it starts where you left off. I've tested it after turning it off, after auto off, and being synced. It only works on files in your PODCAST directory. This is a step in the right direction.

Glad they took my video preview suggestion. I may actually have to update to this one.

Wow, podcasts finally resume where you left off. I use my podcast every day on my View. I'll probably upgrade to the new firmware this weekend.
Updated: Yea! I completed the upgrade to Firmware 01.01.06A using the Sansa Firmware Updater and the audio Podcasts returns right where I left off. All right! Same for Audio books. Seem to be no other ill effects from the Firmware update to .06A The View is still stable and working fine. Lockup with Video preview is gone - well, so is the Video preview that didn't work anyway. |

Well, this new firmware seems to have made my view MUCH more stable. With .03a I was experiencing random lockups. It was a real PITA. With .06a I have yet to experience a lockup in 3 days of use.

This is very good news. I just found out about the update a few minutes ago. Sadly I do not have my sync cable with me at work so I will have to update when I get home tonight. Here's hoping the firmware update fixes the lockup problems I have been having as of late.
Quick question to anyone who has taken the plunge: MSC mode still works with the new firmware right? |

Sweet! Thanks for the heads up. When I get home I will happily upgrade my firmware and then laugh at MS that I can do it on a linux PC. :-D
Edit: now back with problems. Has anyone had an issue with the player not auto-restarting after the new firmware is "installed"? I had to manually reset my player and I am worried that this might have caused a problem. The version number has changed thought. If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it.

Getting fast-forward (as opposed to moving forward, at just slightly more than the usual rate)--but still keeping MSC mode--were important to me. Glad I upgraded. Thanks for the link and instructions, which were very helpful.
On rare occasions--at the beginning of a track--the music would skip repeatedly: it sounded like the efforts of a turntablist who lacked a sense of when enough was enough. (Usually this would go away if I pressed rewind or fast-forward briefly. Worst case, I'd power cycle, and then the tracks would play OK again.) That hasn't happened again. Someone must have complained to SanDisk about the "rebuilding database" process taking too long. Looks as if they responded: not by making the updates faster, but by getting rid of the progress indicator! Replacing a yellow line slowly moving left-to-right, now there's a steady green-striped line which (after the rebuilding is done) eventually disappears. Now, when I'm charging up the player, sometimes you see the flashing-yellow lightning bolt beside the battery icon...and sometimes you don't. I'm not sure whether the firmware update caused this. Maybe it was always there, but it took me awhile to notice it. It seems to happen more commonly in MSC mode. After changing files, sometimes I disconnect and then re-attach, to continue the recharge (so I'll know when it's done). Anybody else with the same issue? |

I'm not too thrilled with this firmware. It seems to get stuck sometimes when I am playing on shuffle, it'll just hang after a song. The first time I put it on shuffle all, it showed 1138 tracks. I turned it off and turned it on and it only showed 100 tracks in the shuffle. I had to start over and "play all" again to rebuild the playlist.
Has anyone had any success with rockbox on their player? |

Just to add my quick note my view (purchased earlier in the week) came with this firmware installed. Its been smooth sailing so far for me but there are some features I haven't tested yet (shuffle for example)
