which of these av players is better for my needs

Ok heres the deal. I'm buying a player for at home so size is not too much of a factor. I'm considering either an av300 series or an av400 series. The 500 and 700 are too expensive for me. I'm getting it to record a few tv shows/games and possibly for long car trips. The battery life on the av300 isn't great according to what a heard and the 400 is a bit better. I'm buying off ebay. Which should I buy?
