Download Firmware 1.01.35a (for v1 Clip) - 2.01.35a (for v2 Clip) (Thanks, Marvin the Martian)
Download Firmware 1.01.32a (for v1 Clip) - 2.01.32a (for v2 Clip) (Thanks, Marvin the Martian) Download Firmware 1.01.30a (for v1 Clip) - 2.01.16a (for v2 Clip) (Thanks, Advcomp2019) Download Firmware 1.01.29a (Thanks, EnzoTen) Download Firmware 1.01.20a (Thanks, Mikerman) Download Firmware 1.01.18a (Thanks, dfkt )Download Firmware 1.01.17a (Thanks, Amkaos) Put the binary from inside this archive in the root of your Clip and be done. No need for the obnoxious Sansa Updater app. (If you don't know what this means, use the Sansa Updater app.) Upgrading the firmware will reset your custom EQ settings - so write them down before upgrading! Read the firmware change log / revision history Some info - those files come directly from the Sansa Updater app. After the updated firmware has been downloaded via the Sansa Updater, the firmware file is plain visible in the root folder of the Sansa (before you disconnect/reboot the Sansa, when the actual upgrade takes place - after that it's gone). There's no hacking/magic to it, everybody can get those files very easily. It's a hassle that SanDisk doesn't make these files available via FTP or HTTP, to spare us the annoyance of installing their obnoxious Updater app... (Files can now also be downloaded from http://forums.sandisk.com/ - thanks, SanDisk!)

For those of us who are completely new to the mp3/Clip community, could you please provide some simple, step-by-step instructions of what to do after one of us opens the box in order to install the new firmware?
Also, does each generation of firmware need to be installed, or just the most recent? Cheers, TTPFred |

I got my Sansa with 1.01.11A firmware and here are steps that I have done to upgrade and load music files using MSC mode:
Changing MTP to MTP mode: Sansa Clip player comes default in MTP mode (this mode allow music subsciptions) To change to MSC mode with 1.01.11A firmware: - Change power (left) button switch to HOLD position - While holding center button, using a USB cable, connect Sansa Clip to PC - Unit will be shown as a drive in My Computer (e.g., E: or F ![]() To upgrade unit directly without using Sansa Updater: - Obtain firmware zip file and extract it from the link above (i.e., m300a.bin) - Using above method, Change Sansa Clip to MSC mode and connect to PC with a USB cable - Copy "m300a.bin" file to root directory of the Sansa drive (e.g., E:\) - Disconnect Sansa USB cable (Upgrade process begins, takes less than a minute) - When display says upgrade complete, turn off and turn back on - Now you can see MSC and MTP options in System Settings Good luck! |

Stupid question (maybe): How do I know what firmware version my player has?

Something I found out about the 1.01.20 firmwares:
The only difference between the US firmwares (m300a.bin) and the European firmwares (m300e.bin) are the file names. The CRC32 checksum for both versions is the same, so the files are 100% the same, not a single bit different. If you name your firmware "a", you will get the radio menu in the settings, if you name them "e", you will lose the radio option. Since there's no radio chip in some of the European versions, it's no use to put the US firmware on these versions of the Clip. EDIT: here's a full thread about these discoveries: http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum...ad.php?t=25408

Have just checked out my firmware settings.
Have the v01.01.18F installed on my Euro Clip, out of the box. Before I update to a newer version, what am I missing out on? Has someone posted what's different in the updates? I'm almost tempted to download the Sansa Updater to see how bad it is...

v01.01.20 has a lower volume level. For some people, that is great. I do not remember if they added the MTP/MSC modes in this version, too.

User selectable MSC/MTP has been introduced before, 1.01.20 mainly fixed the volume levels.

I have an Asia-Pacific Clip ("P") that came with 1.01.18P installed. The Sansa updater tool tells me there's no newer version, but if I download 1.01.20A and rename the file, I can install it without any problems. I ended up with 1.01.20P.

Yes, it does: http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum...ad.php?t=25408
There is no difference in regional firmwares at all, only the last letter of the filename changes how the Clip interprets the firmware.

WOW! that is a huge update. Sandisk really has done an amazing job with the clip. I had some minor promlems here and there getting it within weeks of it coming out. I exspected some problems being an early adpater to the player and sandisk makes this player better and better. I'm glad at least there is one company listening to its customers.
Update: I just updated the firmware and i love that there is now a podcast section. I was a bit confused that i didnt see my podcast in the genre section. I thought i would let anyone that updated or is going to. It was a little confusing but im glad they did that. If i find anythign else differnt i'll let you guys know. |

That was so easy I wondered if I did it correctly. My Clip originally had 1.01.11a. After I upgraded to 1.01.29a, it sounds like the volume might be a bit quieter. Still sounds great though.
