Looks like Sansa just released a new firmware.
Below are the notes as posted on the Sandisk Forum. We have posted a new release to the Sansa Updater with several improvements and fixes. Voice Recorder Sample rate improved. Numerous bug fixes. Battery Gauge more accurate. Long MP3 file Audiobooks FF properly. WMA 32K will be fixed in the next release. Long MP3 files resume properly. Time for long files shows Hours properly. Charging from USB does not force Database to refresh if no content is transferred. Spectrum Display runs faster when EQ is turned on. Best regards, SansaFix |

How exactly do you get the firmware update? Is it on SanDisk's site? I know this sounds extremely noobish, but I'm really new to MP3 players.

For Windows users, you have to install the Sansa Updater:
http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1376 Download and install, then just follow the instructions. Thats all there is to it. The updater installs on your system & checks what firmware you have every time you attach the Clip to your pc. Hope that helps. |

I downloaded the updater v1.041. I have firmware V01.01.11A and when attempting to update, the updater prompts that I have the most current update. I uninstalled and reinstalled the updater twice. What am I doing wrong?

That's a tough one ... I'd suggest contacting Sandisk tech support. Believe it or not, if you call them you usually get someone on the phone pretty quickly. That's been my experience, anyway.

I'm impressed--I posted a request for better voice-recording quality on the Sansa forum just a few weeks back and it's already been updated. The improved sample rate sounds quite nice, much more "natural" than the previous version. Thank you, SanDisk!

The link above does sends you to the correct firmware downloader. The link on sansa clip homepage still does not (as of 11.25.07).

You have to dig your way through that utterly annoying Flash crap: http://www.sandisk.com/sansa/ - thanks to that idiotic site design it's impossible to link directly to anything useful.
I wonder if someone might come up with something even more retarded than using Flash for a site where you actually go for information and downloads, not to marvel at the pretty pictures...

You know, I ws going to try to find the bad firmware updater link so I could tell Sandisk about it ... but the thought of having to go through that utterly annoying Flash crap kept me from doing it. Seriously.

Man this update sucks...Here are the bugs I have seen so far...
Volume, randomly, from song to song, will lower even though the volume bar has not moved. Then when you adjust the volume one notch it goes back to the volume it should be at. Custom EQ has problems saving. When playing a song then going back to the main menu to select another song it will no longer go to the selections you made before. I.e. If from the main menu I selected music>Artists>Crimson Glory>(any song) then pressed the menu to go back to the main menu, instead of automatically selecting the same things I did prior it will default to Music>Play All. I do like you no longer need to press the pause button once to wake the screen up then press it again to actually pause the song. One step forward three steps back. Typical SanDisk.

Just to be clear, as I don't have my Clip with me to test it out ...
MSC is now listed on the USB Mode menu, along with MTP? No more hold switch - center button trick? |
