Default Can't get the audio book file to play

Folks,

I use my e200 for both music and audio books - and I found out after buying that the e200 was probably not the best buy for audiobooks. However, based on the forum, I installed Rockbox. It works fine for music - I like it better than the original firmware. But I can't get it to play my downloaded audiobooks.

The original firmware can locate and play the audiobooks (they are WMA files, licensed, downloaded from the local public library). The licensing is in place and works if I use the Sansa firmware. But if I boot up in Rockbox, I can see the file - it even loads up as if it will play. But then it won't play.

Any ideas what's going on?

Rockbox does not and never will support DRM.

got it. So the licensing format for WMA files is DRM, eh? Hm. Any alternative firmware I can use with the Sandisk that lets me use these files? I was hoping Rockbox would give me bookmarking.

No, it is the other way around- DRM stands for Digital Rights Management. Without looking at the files, I presume that they are in Audible format. I am afraid you are out of luck- you will need to get another player that supports that. If you want to stay with Sandisk, the Clip, View and the unreleased e200 v2 all supports Audible audio books.

Or you could just convert to .mp3 so your legally purchased material can be played on a legally purchased device of your choosing. As an audiobook listner myself, that is what I will probably end up doing. It is a pain to have to go through so many hoops just to listen to something I purchased, but that's DRM for ya and why many (most) people dislike it so much.

You may not find the same books, but if you go to archives.org, one can find old radio programs as well as thousands of books and music that are all free to listen to any way you like...There are audio books as well as text and pdf books that can be converted to read on the sansa rockbox.

Old radio like Gunsmoke or Dragnet...
