Sorry to sound a bit out of touch here, but I've never actually heard of Rockbox. What is it exactly? Is it going to help solve these firmware problems??

This page should answer most of your questions about rockbox.http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/WhyRockbox
im not sure what "Exactly" it is....But I do know that its basically a whole new media center software thats ported over to our S30 and S60's. It doesnt seem to be progressing that fast, if at all though. Probably doesnt have many people working on it. I dont know if your familiar with modding original xbox's but Im hoping it will open this little media player up like xbox media center opened up the xbox. More codec support FTW!!! Maybe Better power usage????Im hoping. |

I am familiar with Xbox and it would be great if something like that was done for the Gigabeat S.
You're right, better power usage would be fantastic. Also, having a way to change the background picture, and maybe the colour theme would be great as well. If at all possible, I wouldn't mind games for it either, if iPods can, why can't we??

Rockbox on the Gigabeat S has made great progress in the past few months. We have a working bootloader and can load a build using several tools included with the Rockbox source code.
Audio isn't complete yet, but plugins, RTC, and a USB stack are all in and working. The USB stack will allow users to transfer files without all that tedious mucking about with MTP. More port progress information can be seen at: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/vie.../GigabeatSPort You're invited to come help test the port!

As of May 3rd, 2008, audio works on the Gigabeat S series.
We don't offer builds yet on the main build page, but those savvy enough to compile from source can build a bootloader and Rockbox build, which will boot, run, and allow audio playback. Power management and a manual are being worked on, as well as a more user-friendly method of installation. The FM radio doesn't work yet, nor does video out. Just letting everyone know ahead of time. ![]() More information here:http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/vie.../GigabeatSPort
