Sansa e200 to Sansa e200R

Call it stupid but I did it, and it's very very very impossible to get it back. Anyway, all you need it this: http://daniel.haxx.se/sansa/e200/rha...y-1.0.2.31.zip
That's the pp5022.mi4 file, just rename it to PP5022.mi4
And this: http://daniel.haxx.se/sansa/e200/BL_...dSupportSD.btl
That's the bootloader, just rename it BL_SD_BOARDSUPPORTSD.ROM

I also figured out that on the origanal sansa (e200), that the file extension is read the same way, so you can change the .btl to a .ROM and it will understand it.

Put the two files above into your sansa in recovery mode, let it upgrade, and you've got a sansa e200R. Also, the R series players are invincible. I formated the standard partition, and the 16MB-FORMAT partition, nothing happened. The player still works fine. Need to find out where the BL is stored ...

You'll have to show us a screendump or something to prove that it's an R series now because the hardware is differen't. Do that to a regular E200 and it WILL show load main image failed switch to recovery mode. Why would you want an R series anyway

I find it interesting that you have done this, when most R series owners wish they’d bought an e200 series. Why in the hell would I want to convert my e200 to an R series? Let’s see, I’d give up themes, Rockbox, & other programs...

The hardware isn't different, and theres no need for proof, this has been done a few times before. Its quite possible.

Right, but when I tried it with my sisters E250 it said load main image failed so I wonder if it depends on when the player was made

No, I don't think it would be because the rhapsody firmware has a key remember once it's there it's there permanently

Well I did it for the sake of experimentation...now if I only knew how to code, I could figure out how to mod back and forth. The signature code is what they need to make RB work. I think if the RB coders figure it out, we probably can use that same bootloader to sneak in standard e200 firmware.

Not permanately, we just need to find the offset on the disk to find where all of the files are stored.

And I also discovered, that the BL is stored in the hidden partition, along with all of the players folders (i. e. SYSTEM folder, MUSIC, VIDEOS, and everything else, along with a boot-up disk check, that sees if it's formated correctly, and if it's not, the formatter runs inside of it to re-format it to the correct file-system.

Dan A, me and MrH have been poking around (well I mostly talk while they poke) and we have been making some fun progress and have been able to convert a vanilla e200 to a e200R and back...

Not currently. From what the Rockbox devs have found, it's currently impossible to update the bootloader.

I'll confirm this with the Devs, but IIRC they already have it The devs don't have a working signature, but they also just need to find a way to update the bootloader. For the time being, we'd have to use e200tool to rewrite part of the bootloader, except we don't know where it is stored.

While it could be possible, we don't know where the bootloader is stored. Also, quote from Bagder:
"Besides, if you had kept the vanilla bootloader you should still be able to dual-boot rockboox or rhapsody sansa. With the R bootloader, that won't be possible."

Basically, it's possible to use the Rhapsody firmware on the e200, but you can't (well, you can, but you shouldn't) use the Rhapsody bootloader on the e200. People who have converted their e200 to the e200R and back haven't upgraded the bootloader.

2. Find a valid signature code.

We don't need a valid code signature, just need to find where everything is stored, then we can remove the R bootloader.

They mean find where the bootloader is stored, not find a copy. The bootloader is easy to get from memory (e200tool does that), but that doesn't tell you were the R series originally stored it. You'd have to improve e200tool to somehow search for that info, and so far no one has shown any interest in doing so.

Go read through the R series info on rockbox.org. What needs to be done is explained in detail there by Bagder.
