The wait for textless F, or P, or whatever firmware is at an end! H3Mod can now
replace text in Sansa firmware. For now, I just added the menu strings, so they
can be replaced by blanks (that's the trick to make them disappear). You can
either change them in standard firmware, like a theme, or use this trick to create
your own textless menu. Here's how:
1. download the latest version of H3Mod, 2.7.2647
2. save the attached blanks.txt file
3. load normal firmware
4. go to Text/Strings: you'll see the list of menu strings to the left, and the translation
to the right (initially the same)
5. click Load and select the blanks .txt: the translations are replaced by blanks
6. click OK
Now you can do two things:
7a. Load a theme
8a. Save the firmware which is themed and textless
7b. Save the theme, and you have a blank, textless firmware for future use.
If you want to replace the strings by something else than blanks, have a look at
the help file, it explains how to use the string window. If you want to change
other languages, that can quite easily be added, let me know if there is interest.
There are also lots of other strings, if there is interest, I can publish the list and you
can sort it into groups.
All that said, the usual disclaimer: I have no Sansa, so I can't test if it really works.
But the result looks very promising.
