Mediacoder allows you to rip from a DVD (Add Track as opposed to Add file or folder) provided you have the additional s/w from the same website, direct to an MPeg2 for Rockbox. It creates one full mpeg file and works great.

I would definitely recommend this for a simple and effective conversion and simple windows GUI front end.

My son has a brand new iPod Video and we are using the same s/w to convert to Mpeg4 format to put onto his player as opposed to all the converted .VOBs he has done already (maybe put Rockbox on for him too!)
I have tried using the XML provided by Jac0b, but whenever I try to run it, I get "No output has been produced" and can't get beyond this. Any idea on what I am doing wrong? Thx.

Never mind - I didn't remove the output folder in the xml. It is now removed and is working. I'll see how it turns out.

I'm new to this, so pardon some of this sounding stupid. I used WinFF originally and everything worked well, yet I wanted to crop some of the vids to prevent the letterbox/black bars since the sansa screen is so small.

I tried MediaCoder and it worked well for about an hour, then said the error "No output file" on all videos I tried from then on out. I read on their forums and apparently many are experiencing this issue without a solution in sight. I gave up after trying all suggested remedies.

I would still like the video cropped and enlarged, any suggestions? I can't use virtualdub as my files are .flv

Try avidemux:

http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/

for a good GUI program. However, I don't know how well it works under the platform you are on since I have only used it under Linux.

Wow, it works perfectly. Finally! Even better than Mediacoder on cropping. Now to think of all the time I could have saved if I just thought to ask first...

I use Total Video Coverter and it works like a dream.

Got the setting saved as e200 16:9 letterbox as follows for widescreen:

Custom audio bit rate: 128.000 kbit/s
Audio codec: mp3
Custom video frame rate: 25.000 /s
Custom video bit rate: 192 kbit/s
Video codec: mpeg2video

...and settings saved as e200 4:3 as follows for full screen
Profile name: e200 4:3
Target type: .mpg
Custom audio sample rate: 48000 b/s
Custom audio bit rate: 128.000 kbit/s
Audio codec: mp3
Custom video frame rate: 25.000 /s
Custom video bit rate: 192 kbit/s
Video codec: mpeg2video

I think the video bitrate could be higher. Also, you should allways use 44100 Hz

Profile name: New Mpeg1 video normal quality
Target type: .mpg

Custom audio sample rate: 48000 b/s
Custom audio bit rate: 128.000 kbit/s
Audio codec: mp3

Custom video frame rate: 25.000 /s
Custom video bit rate: 192 kbit/s

still not working even changing audio to 44100 not working.

well the audio is always faster than the video. Is there anyone who has a perfect setting for any converter ?

I've been using Media Coder and the sound doesn't match up.
I use 44100 as the audio sample rate.

Dunno if you read any of this thread you posted to but there are 5-10 suggestions on how they do it. This thread should help: http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum...76&postcount=3
