Added, thanks for reminding me. They would be giant killers if only their housing, fit, and form factor wouldn't be so utterly awful, if they had better isolation, a better cable, and so on. Sound-wise, they're really excellent - everything else isn't.

Added the Final Audio Design Heaven-S (aka. FI-BA-SB) to the list. Thanks to James444 for the loaner.

They're my favorite one from that weird Japanese joint yet. Maybe not quite as refined as the ~$1200 FI-BA-SS overall, and still rather overpriced at ~$400, but more lively, with better bass quality and slightly more quantity. Treble is a bit unrefined though at times, it can be sibilant and a bit grainy at times. Timbre, detail, punch, dynamics, speed, instrument separation, and soundstage are very nice - 'lively' as I already mentioned, effortless and natural sounding.

Build quality-wise, their flat cables are a step up from the seriously crappy cheapo cables FAD usually puts on their high-priced IEMs. However, they don't stay put that well over the ears, and microphonics are on the not so nice side - especially when wearing them hanging down.

The ostentatious gold colored housing paired with the brown cable makes them better fit for the dinging room of an English lord's manor or such, but I've seen worse... cough, Monster, cough.

In my opinion, they're a step in the right direction, both price- and sound-wise. FAD seem to be coming down from their high horse, so to speak. (They do have some $70 earbuds as well in their lineup, but those are rather bad sounding.)

By the way, FAD does actually build their own proprietary armatures, which is rather unique in this business (most other IEM manufacturers use either Knowles or Sonion armatures). They bought a factory in Indonesia only for their own needs. This somehow justifies their price, actually. The armatures are vented, something that's also seen in the Sleek SA6 and maybe a few other IEMs.

^ dfkt: Not in your league at all, but FWIW, I too enjoyed these IEMs [I also tried their maximum priced ones]. They have the Final Audio lineup at Jaben, Hong Kong.

As I am not such an experienced listener, while I liked the Final Audio stuff, I personally still loved my Panas even better.

Can someone point me where are those in the spreadsheet? I can't seem to find it, even though I count 49 of them.

Whoops, there was an error transferring the graphic to the server yesterday, didn't notice that. Now the new spreadsheet is up.

Added the Ortofon e-Q5 to the list. Here's the review, and here's the discussion thread.

Interesting, I would have thought the e-q5 may have beat the ie8’s in list placement but I guess not.

Just a note, having looked into this recently, the RP-HJE900's are no where to be found for 80USD (as the spreadsheet shows) anymore cuz J&R dropped them. My guess is that those were clearance prices. The cheapest I can find them now is about 130USD. Sorry to randomly jump in.

I beat you all - with a wet towel!

Seriously, it's hard to categorize the list. Everything in the upper half is nice, everything in the upper quarter is very nice, in my opinion. Just depending on personal taste, mostly. The IE8 are great, the e-Q5 are great, the e-Q7 are great. I wouldn't go as far as saying that one "beats" the other.

Seems their days on earth are numbered. Who knows, maybe they're out of production already. I wonder if Panasonic will release a worth successor to the HJE900.

I'm happy I purchased a 2nd pair from J&R when it dropped it's price to $79.99 one time. The first pair I purchased was $119.99.

I still have the q-jays. I don't get a chance to listen to them very much (almost never) . I popped them in the other day and I think they sound great. they are very comfortable but the cord kinda sucks.
