Quick Comparison of 63 IEMs (Spreadsheet)

I'm new to abi so this might have been asked already. But what are some good iem's for metal other than the phonak pfe that don't require an amp, have good noise isolation, and under $200. And I'm using a Sony S61X with all my music in LAME, and planning to get a D2+ or S9.

Would it be possible to add a column that mentions whether the headphones need an amp or not. Or does that depend more on the device one uses

Generally IEM's doesn't need to be amped.. even a cheap mp3 player can power a 32 or 16 ohm Iem

According to the iem chart it seems that the phonak and se530 have about the same quantity of bass.

I don't know if this has been asked but which one of the two edges out the other (even if it is very slightly) in bass quantity and bass depth with relevant phonak filters?

The SE530 have more bass quantity than the PFE. My 3-step rating isn't precise enough for those nuances, guess I'd have to update the whole spreadsheet... sometimes.

The SE530 have more bass, especially more midbass, but don't extend as deep and evenly as the PFE. The PFE have less bass quantity, but go down to the lowest octave very linear, and don't display a midbass hump.

Correct, you don't need an amp for any of those IEMs. Certainly not for volume boost - although some ultra-efficient IEMs might hiss less with a dedicated amp than when plugged directly into an MP3 player.

As I understand it, the Shure SE530's are currently 2 years old. I am considering buying a pair, and I'm wondering - is a new Shure model coming out that will be the successor for the se530 ? Thanks.

LOL If that's the case, I have one of the best sounding IEMs out there BTW theres no Metro.Fi 2, its 200.. The guy from gizmodo doesn't even know what IEMs he's talking about

Added the Sennheiser IE8, Hippo VB, Hippo Boom, MylarOne Quattro, Bijou 2, Bijou 3 to the list.

The IE 8 is everything I hoped for - and it better be for that price. The real surprise is however the Hippo VB. A truly excellent sounding IEM for the price.

I also adjusted the RE0 price to the current MSRP. Now they're really a bargain.

From all I read on Head-Fi, they IE7 should be similar, without the big bass. Meaning, the IE8 might have more bass even on the lowest bass setting - but I don't know if that's true.

Have you had the chance to listen to the Nuforce NE-6 / 7M? I'm trying to find out the best bang-for-the-buck phones under $100, preferably with dynamic drivers. An NE-6 vs Hippo VB would be a very interesting comparison.
