Default Advises All Members To Change Their Password After Security Breach didn't reveal details in the official statement but what they said was very clear.

We are currently investigating the leak of some user passwords. This follows recent password leaks on other sites, as well as information posted online. As a precautionary measure, we’re asking all our users to change their passwords immediately.
  • Please log in to and change your password on the settings page
  • If you can’t remember your password you can reset it without logging in
We will never email you a direct link to update your settings or ask for your password.
We strongly recommend that your new password is different to the password you use on other services. For more advice on choosing a solid password we recommend:
We’re sorry for the inconvenience around changing your password; takes your privacy very seriously. We’ll be posting updates in our forums and via our Twitter account (@lastfm) as we get to the bottom of this.
The Team
If you have a account it's time to get your password changed. If you use that password across multiple account you'll want to do it immediately.

I'd check the included link for tips on creating hard to crack passwords. The strongest password you can make won't do any good if it's stolen unfortunately. I still think having a strong passwords per account is a good idea. The way I look at it is every little bit helps when you're trying to safeguard your privacy.
