Double check in the K5 under "Settings -> System -> About" (from memory, but the path should be similar) that the firmware version is 1.43 WA. If so then you will be able to listen to music while charging, but only after selecting to eject or safely remove the K5.

Yeah, I figured it out, thanks. Don't worry, I had the firmware to the right version, but I suppose that was a necessary question :-) Yes, you had to eject the device first. Thanks!

My k5 has frozen when I updated to this software. The samsung wiggly screen won-t stop. I've been waiting for it for ages. I've finnished my geometry class and still it won't load. When I connect it to my pc though, it functions. It's read and I could re update the firmware. I have tried using MTP. When I used MTP, it proceeded on to playing the songs. It didnt get stuck on the wiggly samsung loading screen. T__T

Help?

Lioncourt, be sure to follow the guide step by step each time when switching between firmware versions. Let us know if you are having trouble completing each part in the correct order.

'Karaoke' style lyrics which are synchronised with the music. Samsung Lyrics Station can do this (download in my sig), and a thread on the K5 and lyrics here.

I've no problem switching between the firmwares. I've figured it out. When I switch to UMS, the Samsung screen as I've said won't stop wiggling. When I switch to MTP, it loads. I tried deleting the files I put on my K5 before the UMS problem happenned, and it worked.

License error was what it said. What does that mean? And, when I'm on MTP, my songs mysteriously change titles to Chinese characters. O_O What's up with that? Ahaha.

Did you happen to have any copy protected music before you switched to UMS? As their licence is incompatible with this firmware.

Check that 'Settings > Language > ID3 Tag' is set to English.

If I restart the whole thing, would it fix it? First off, is there any way I can restart my unit? As in like I just bought it? No files, no custom settings? Restarting factory settings?

No Files: My Computer > Right-click K5's drive > Format > FAT32 > Start.
Default Settings: System > Default Set.

Note, this will not revert to the original firmware, you must install the original version manually.

It says I can't and I must quit disk utilities or other programs using the drive. O_O I have no other application/window running though.
Oh god. And now I can't use my task manager. Wtf.
My root folder has these hidden files:

Recycler [folder]
autorun
ned_lic.sys
ned_sid.sys
system.ver
sscvihost [folder]

and another folder, not hidden though, named "New Folder", that I can't delete.

will deleting them help? T__T

Spyware? Virus?

Sounds like you are having some problems with the computer rather than the K5, and I'm not sure what to suggest there. Once the computer is behaving normally then try again.

So the hidden files are not a problem?

The files should be in you SYSTEM folder if I'm not mistaken, not the root. If the K5 is functioning as it should then I wouldn't worry about them. If not, then re-installing the firmware should correct it.

Mmm. But I really don't think it's my computer. I can't even disconnect the USB device. It's always busy or something.

Is this an official firmware update or a hacked one?

All firmware posted in the Samsung forums are official. I don't know of any hacked/alternate firmware for Samsung players.

pandafool, as far as I know any UMS firmware will support lyrics display, see this thread for getting them to work, it should tell you all you need to know. Take a look at Nacron's posts in particular.

Anyone tried to format the K5 in FAT (FAT16) format, then update?
Generally FAT16 is faster than FAT32...

(excuse for my poor english, I'm italian... )
