I don't know about he microphone quality, but when you change music playback speed the pitch also changes. I don't know any player that changes the tempo of the music while keeping the pitch intact.

Thanks for answering, that figures. When I slow down music using software that keeps the pitch the same, it has to do some serious crunching on the computer, probably too much to ask from an mp3 player.

In fact, I think the ooold Nomad Zen Extra had the ability to change speed without affecting pitch. Some EAX feature, if I remember right. So it's not impossible, but would probably kill the battery time anway.

I believe you can speed/slow in Rockbox without changing the pitch.

Nah, only regular pitch bend, no pitch shift or time stretch in Rockbox.
