Are you going to put "picture flow" plugin in your upcoming build?
It would be very nice to see it in action on my sansa. |

I am in the process of syncing a new release, I would like to know if I should move on to view port or keep the old theming system. I have no preference either way since I am not really into complex themes.

I guess it's better to include Viewports since a lot of parts of the Viewports patch have already been committed to SVN.

Patients, my friend, patients.
Viewports, personally i trust the SVN more than custom patches (for themes) |

Charles:
Viewports (IMO) make patching easier, since there's only one patch instead of two (or three). Seeing that parts of viewports are in SVN, it will become tricky to keep the old patches sync'd - while this is with the entire viewports patch, I'm sure it will still look something similar, if you try to add FS#2954 - http://pastebin.ca/843247 If you stay with the old patches, you'll still need to add viewports at some point, most likely when it's officially in SVN. In addition, since mine and digi's build have viewports (and I believe kugel is to follow on his next update) this could be the only build with or without viewports - that could be a good thing (all the old themes will still work) or a bad thing (viewport ported themes won't work, possibly other reasons) but it is entirely up to you. /my $0.02

even though i think that viewports is the way to go, it would propably be good to have one non-viewport build still available.
but on the other side this would put more pressure on the wps-makers to convert them to VP. to be honest i switches to cj's build at the moment because of VP and the available sim for VP and multifont :-)

If every user who can modify WPS files would modify only one theme to work with Viewports, the whole "old themeing system" will disappear in no time. So let's start to modify those old themes and customline, scrolling margins will be forgotten for the eternity.

So from what I gather, viewports and the old theme patches can't be installed side-by-side? As in, we can't have the best of both worlds, where we can install both new and old themes?

I have a small question...what are or is this "viewport" in rockbox?
I'm trying to be update with rockbox news but I didn't hear about this. EDIT: Ok I found it. This is in Sansa e200 Rockbox Themes sub forum so I couldn't find it first. |

It's possible, but it'd be very hard to sync the old WPS patches after applying viewports

Would be nice if you could add the FS#8400 patch to the build, which allows you to disable (from the Settings menu, so it's not necessary to use it) wheel light turning on on any key press.
The light is so strong, that it could kill a small animal I belive... an ant for example ![]() Every time I listen to the music when falling asleep and I want to skip the track or whatever else that requires pressing a key I get suprised how blinding this light can be... It's not thaaat bad in the day, but when it's dark it's way too strong for me. It makes reading the lcd screen more difficult as it distracts my attention. I think at least some of you will agree. I was even thinking about disassembling the device and trying to do something with it from the hardware side, but then suddenly I spotted this patch. Software solution seems to be better, I wouldn't like to risk any failure. The other advantage of this light beeing always off should be less battery usage, but I don't know if this can be even noticed. It's too late now, but tomorrow I'll compile RB with that patch to see how does it work in real life and is it worth looking into. |
