I think it's happening when you try to change song in other folders It happen to me twice today while I was trying to change to a song that's in another folder.

Manually (I am still running a test, so I can't do that right now)? I have "auto change folder" enabled and the device is still playing (over an hour). Also, does the lock up occurs with the same filetype?

In my case, whenever changing albums in the database, the song will load but not play. Then eventually after trying to play/pause, change songs, a message will pop up saying that the database is not ready. This happens with the Directory Cache on or off. It also is not discriminant to specific file formats (or changing formats for that matter).

Changing albums through a playlist created with the db or manually in the db?

OK I can reproduce it now- it only occurs with playlists created through the db and not the file browser. Building an unpatched version of Rockbox right now to test out.

Edit: I was only able to reproduce it once. After that, no matter how hard I tried, I can't.

I have been experiencing the same random? freezing with the unpatched rockbox builds recently as well, even with playlists created by the file browser (root playlist). I tried yesterday's build and it seems to happen far less often, but I have noticed it happening. However, I can't seem to reproduce it in a consistent manner.

Hum, so it does seem like a Rockbox problem. I suspect that it has something to do with the big change- "Metadata in buffer".

I don't have any problem with playing songs on load, all my music is added to the playlist through the DB, except for one song, which I loaded after installing the new build... possibly has some part in this?

Just to clarify my pausing / freeze issue happens mid song. It's hard to reproduce though as it sometimes works for hours without fault

I've also encountered another issue where the player froze playback in the same way and started flashing up a "codec failure" error message intermittently, haven't been able to reproduce it though and a shutdown / restart fixed that issue.

I have it too. It could be related to my long standing issue with crossfeed. With crossfeed on, playing randomly pauses for a few seconds. Now with the latest build I get a freeze. If I turn the crossfeed off it plays fine. I haven't played much though to tell if that was a coincidence.

Possibly they managed to break something within the last few weeks, the last build I was using was cpchan's Oct 6 build and everything worked fine,

same here, the build before worked fine, but I seem to be more likely to get the problem when it starts playing a wma file(latest rb)... it got so frustrating I have actually been using the OF all day.

The freeze+sound problems seems to be a SVN problem. Be patient, until the new code gets ironed out.

i was having problems with the new build not displaying album art properly and freezing when i did a regular shutdown... thankfully i had this version from october 7th backed up that works fine...

I was testing an unreleased version based on a later SVN yesterday. The freeze is still there, but switching to the next song will resume playback. I will be updating to the latest SVN before doing other release- hopefully there will be more improvements.
