No, you should use the safely remove feature of Windows when you use Windows. As every USB drive.

Actually, you're wrong, the battery life for the e280 is quoted to have up to 20 hrs of battery life, as per the Sandisk product page:

Oh ok, I was referring to the native device battery life, and pointing out that the firmware greatly degrades the battery life.

I am having extreme difficulty with getting rockbox to work on my sansa 280. After installing and I go to boot up I get a black screen with white text stating:
"Rockbox boot loader
Version: ( i can't get this number as the screen disappears too fast)
Partition 0: ( i can't get this number as the screen disappears too fast)
partition 1: ( i can't get this number as the screen disappears too fast)
loading rockbox....
cant load rockbox .mi4
file not found
cant load rock box e200
file not found

this has happened both time i have tried to install and had to go back and put original firmware back on during recovery. I am probaly making a very simple mistake but I will tell you how I installed rock box

Extracted files to player
installed boot loader
safely remove

just as said in the rockbox manual?

I would greatly appreciate the help thanks!

I had a release ready yesterday, but it was never released due to a show stopper bug in mpegplayer. It was fixed this morning with a new patch, unfortunately something changed in the mpegplayer code which broke the patch again- I am waiting for an update.

When do you get the panic.

I am still unable to play video though, so if anyone has any ideas how to get that to work I'm all ears.
Did you follow the instructions to encode your videos in mpeg1 or mpeg2?
